Try this for fun. It might be fun to know how much power you might be making. This is what my car might be making........

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
Your chevy z28 weighs about 3770 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 12.69 seconds. That means that you've got about 364.62 HP at the wheels, and about 474.01 HP at the flywheel.

Thats kind of fun Vincent...

How did you figure out your vehicle weight? (My door sticker says my car only weighs 4200, but I refuse to believe that.)

This is pretty good! I used the last formula.

Your firebird weighs about 43** pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.23 seconds. That means that you've got about 298.03 HP at the wheels, and about 387.44 HP at the flywheel.

Don't I wish.

I used the 2nd formula. I'll keep the results to myself

heres my results

Vehicle Weight:3200 (guess)
1/4 Mile Trap MPH Your: 80 (guess)
Estimated Net Horse Power :127

that was the first formula, heres the 3rd,sounds better to me

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
Your 1982 firebird weighs about 3200 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 16 seconds. That means that you've got about 154.41 HP at the wheels, and about 200.73 HP at the flywheel.

heres if my car weighs 2900 LB's with that same 3rd formula:

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
Your 1982 firebird weighs about 2900 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 16 seconds. That means that you've got about 139.93 HP at the wheels, and about 181.92 HP at the flywheel.

There is no way your IROC weighs that much, more like 3350lbs ... maybe with groceries in the trunk and three other passengers, but you don't race/drive it that way. My Z28 weighed 3150lbs as factory equipped and it was a hardtop. You actually have closer to 350 rwhp or 410 flywheel HP.

1st formula--> 320.29382644246766

3rd formula --> Your IROC weighs about 3545 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 12.68 seconds. That means that you've got about 343.67 HP at the wheels, and about 446.78 HP at the flywheel.

Course I figure she can do the 1/4 faster but I have to get a timeslip to prove it

That formula is dead nuts accurate compared to any others I have ever seen.

car & driver weight- I'm just shy of 3400 with my lightweight V6(3150 estimated aprox) and I weight 240lbs. I have added alot of weight to the car in areas, I have also taken off alot of weight in areas in the car. I have to have it weighed to be exact but my guess is I am still right around 3150 because of the A/C, sfc's, other added bracing, and the auto trans. But I have so many LW parts on this also like the CF driveshaft,etc,.... I could go on and on. A V6 is at least 200lbs lighter than a V8.
Anyways, I know this car slowed to a firm 16sec car at about 80 mph with the taller 3.23 rear gear. It was 15.8 @ 83 with the 3.42's
That formula is showing it @ 3400 lbs, 165hp at the flywheel= 15.97 @ 85. This is not a torquey motor hence the lower MPH I have vs the equation. But all in all is pretty accurate.

The new motor will put me at a 14 sec firm at about 95mph which is plenty I'll ever want for a daily driver. It'll get me up a freeway onramp decently

Julie,
Your GTA doesn't weigh 4200lbs. That number on the door is the weight with the car fully loaded — ie. four passeners, luggage in the back, full of fuel ...etc.

The actual weight should be around 3400 lbs. or so.

Pretty cool. Here's what I got:

Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method
Your 1988 Pontiac Trans Am weighs about 3500 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.6 seconds. That means that you've got about 222.28 HP at the wheels, and about 288.96 HP at the flywheel.

Using that formula I should be trapping at 106 mph. My best to date is 103.59. The conditions at Fontana the last time out were not the best. More MPH and ET to be had. Allen

I know you somewhat kidding Allen, but just for reference, the estimated MPH on the thing is just a little high from what it seems fronm everyone. I know for a fact that my little Camaro gets no wheel spin at all unless its raining......hard. And my shift points are very fast due to the custom built 700r4 I have in it. There is abosulely no drivers error in this car no matter who's driving it- only reaction time. Its a just stomp-it-and-go car with low power and great traction.

Yet it lists me at 85mph, not the aprox 80 it does in the real world.

Its still very close in acurracy though, best I've seen.

Dean

Ok, ok. I figured somebody with a GTA would know. I adjusted the estimates. This is with my latest times.

Your pontiac weighs about 3500 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 14.23 seconds. That means that you've got about 240.07 HP at the wheels, and about 312.09 HP at the flywheel.

Julie you have to figure the total weight of your car including the driver. So how much would that be?

Your 1983 Trans Am weighs about 3200 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 16.4 seconds. That means that you've got about 143.39 HP at the wheels, and about 186.40 HP at the flywheel.

Sounds about right...

... and 480 ft lbs torque at 4000 RPM. Sounds good to me!

ALL horsepower quotes computed at flywheel, and are not an indication of RWHP.

Your 1984 camaro weighs about 3550 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about xx.x7 seconds. That means that you've got about XXX.22 HP at the wheels, and about 672.38 HP at the flywheel.

wishful thinking ,but I dont think so

Your faster then james Camaro weighs about 3550 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 11.07 seconds. That means that you've got about 517.22 HP at the wheels, and about 672.38 HP at the flywheel.

What part is wishfull thinking the 11.07 ET

All the above! It says that all HP figures are at the fly wheel, then it gives the bogus rear wheel HP figures. 517 hp at the wheels. That is wishful thinking for my car.

11.07 is the other! I would imagine that this would have to be on its best day going down hill over a cliff with a high tail wind

This is more like it: Horsepower Results - 1/4 Mile Method

Your camaro weighs about 3550 pounds and can complete a 1/4 mile in about 12.06 seconds. That means that you've got about 400.01 HP at the wheels, and about 520.02 HP at the flywheel.
