Posi ?
Posi ?
I posted about an 87 trans am i was trying to buy a while ago, and i'll finally be picking up the car tomorrow. Its a dream come true.
The dust caps say WS6, but the console is missing so im not sure if it actually has the WS6 suspention... I do know that it has drum brakes in the rear.
NOw to my question: Anyway to find out if i have posi without getting a 'exhibition of speed' ticket

Check for the posi code in the club box or drop the rear cover and see if your carrier looks the same as the picture below or raise the rear and spin a tire. If both tires spin, you have a posi.

Glove Box = Center Console
If the RPO Code sticker is not located there, then check the storage pace located on the left hand side of the trunk.

If you're a fan of traction, then a posi is good.

Car: Yes...
Engine: Last time I checked...
Transmission: See "Engine"...
The "wheel spin" test isn't always reliable. Best bet is to check for the RPO code and/or ID tags on the differential cover.
If all the ID info is missing, then pull the diff. cover and do a visual check as mentioned above.

Not to mention with the age of these cars, and usually not knowing the history of how it has been driven the rear end could be worn out a bit.

I would Just Pull The cover off and check and while your down there get a chrome cover, then replace the Gear Oil..
Then you know you that you have fresh fuild.
