California Iroc?

I've never heard of this California Iroc thing before. I know in the past local dealers did things like the firebird 500 and the "XS" badge on the 89-90 Birds. Another E-bay myth?

The California Iroc was factory...

The '83-'84 Firebird 500, and the Firebird XS/SSA were also factory.

The Ca IROC was offered in 1985 only. G.M. made 500 Ca IROCs for sale in ca. only. 100 were black and 400 were red. The cars were IROCs underneath with 305 tpi engines, and the gfx, but they had a plain hood and no rear spoiler.

I didn't throw it away, it went to New Zealand for spare parts. The firewall was bent from a hit in the cowl on the passenger side. Since all of the measurements for straightness are taken off the firewall, a bent firewall means the car is totaled.

Sorry, I was wrong. It went to New Zealand to be restored. I feel a lot better now.

I don't think it went to be restored. Third Gens are not as common in wrecking yards down there as they are here, so I think it went for spare parts. The only way to restore that car would be to replace the firewall assembly, and it would have to be done on a jig to keep everything straight. It could be done, but would probably cost more than the car would ever be worth, or than I could afford to pay.

Re: California Iroc?

If you are interested in any information on the California IROC, I own one. It is red. As mentioned the cars have the stock Camaro Sport coupe hood, no rear deck spoiler, and no graphics on the lower panels. The items that give them away are the fog lamps, IROC-Z center caps on the wheels, and the dashboard passenger side decal that reads Z28 Tuned Port Injection. I notice that not all Camaros have the overhead console with map light, flashlight and event reminder.

There is one magazine write-up I am aware of, "Camaro Trans AM" Winter 1985, Volume 2, No. 1, pages 42 & 43. The Article is titled "Other IROCS... The Late L69 and One More Reason To Hate California." By L. Sharke. The writer states that it was "Chevy's California Marketing Group that came up with the idea and only 500 were built."

I also have a 1985 (1C5) RPO California IROC-Z . I'm trying to find out what the RPO code Z5V is on the SPID tag in the console. If you go to History/Restoration on this web site under "What is the RPO code Z5V on my 1985 1C5 IROC?" I've posted pictures of the car and it's SPID tag. I'd be interested to see what options are on yours. Another thread with information is at IMPORANT/USEFUL: READ ME! Before asking "Is my car rare/Desirable. In the History/Restoration section. Another car to view would be Dave Sauro's beautiful black California IROC-Z. Try searching his name with California IROC-Z. Stay in touch.
