AAAARRGH! Busted!
Some of you will be happy to know that, after 4 years of running around with a naked front bumper, I got a fix-it ticket.
The cops followed me around like they always do, giving me the evil eye and all that, but this time the light was out over the back plates, without my knowing it. And then, of course, I got cited for the front plate too, because they had to look for it, and make sure I wasn't some kind of terrorist, and poke around in the tools in the back seat.
Today just wasn't my day.

Wow Julie sorry to hear they treated everything as such a situation as that.. Now remember I mentioned that ticket I got.. And such a little thing as such and they always blow things out of proportion.. Good thing it's an easy fix..

Well some of it was easy to fix, I already did the light bulb. The plates are something else. The car's nose has two holes for a hanger I guess. They don't match the 4 holes on the plate.

Well, the unspeakably ugly plates are on the front now, (thanks to you-know-who for putting together a bracket using the holes already in the car)...
(edit: Yes there's only one light bulb for the back plates. At least it was easy to get to...)
The officer told me to go to any police station, but 'any' police station charges from $15 to $25 to do the inspection. So I go all the way down to THEIR police station, where it's free, but I'm not in the computer yet because the officer hasn't turned in the ticket. So they sent me away.
Poo.

The CHP officer must have been feeling generous, because there's no way that meets the vehicle code. I'm surprised he let that pass.

So, I'm waiting all week to get the ticket information in the mail, like they said they would. Today, I get something in the mail... It looks like a ticket. Yes, it is a ticket... just not the one I was waiting for!!! I got busted running a red light last Friday!
The pictures are fantastic! They only cost $350 too. They got front and back, and me, in detail. If I can, I'll scan them up.
The best part is, I remember setting off a red light camera last weekend, but just not at that particular intersection!

Poor Julie
your insurance agent is going to be real happy with you
I hate those freaking intersection camera's. You got to watch them as you approach to make sure do not to get tagged by one.

Go to traffic school if you can, or you will cry when it hits the insurance for 3 years. There's also some kind of secondary traffic school you can ask for if you go to court the first day, but i dunno how it affects your insurance, it might just take the points away.
True story: anyone remember seeing the guy up in LA somewhere running the camera red light with a gorilla head, no front plates and giving the camera a dual bird salute? They showed it on the news (with of course his birds blurred out). It was right when they started with these intersection camera's years back.

Always fight your tickets even if you are wrong. Always plea NOT GULITY. That will keep you from paying court assement fees. Try to go to traffic school on both tickets. If you don't, you will pay for it down the road. Always go out with a fight. If the Officer shows up, request traffic school.

She doesn't need to go to traffic school on a "fix it" ticket. Just fix it, and get it signed off. That one doesn't even affect your insurance rates since it isn't a moving violation. Go to traffic school on the red light violation. It won't do any good to plead not guilty on the red light violation, it doesn't require anybody to be there, just a clerk to bring in the pictures. This begs another question, if they got pictures of your car from the front and back, why do we still have a law requiring those awful front license plates? Besides, if a car is fast enough, front plates are a waste; they never see anything but the back one anyway!

I was told here in OC that if you want to fight the ticket, you give up the traffic school option. And if you do opt for traffic school you had to wait 18 months before doing it again.

I didn't know about giving up the right to traffic school if you fight a ticket, but 18 months sound right. I went to traffic school almost 15 years ago the last time. I doubt that there is any point fighting a traffic signal picture ticket. The only way you could win is to prove you are not in the pictures.

Hypethetical question?
what happens if someone else was driving Julies car when that red light incident happened.I mean...How would the cops get the real culprit
They have julies tags but not julie driving the car...how would they identify the driver

That's the reason why if, for a regular ticket, if the officer doesn't write your name or address correctly on the ticket, you can fight it in court and win fairly easily since it shows that the ticket was for somebody else (even if it really was for you).
Another friend of mine got caught by the camera recently and got 3 photos in the mail with his ticket. He said these pics are extremely hi-res, they can see you very clearly.
He's going to fight it claiming he was making a right turn on red and you can see his blinker is on in the photo.

According to the information on the ticket, there is an acoompanying video, so these must be scenes not photos... The company who does the work comes from Arizona. No wonder it's so expensive...

Julie,
At what stage of the light did you commit to going on thru?
The reason I ask is that I was once told in traffic school that if your car breaks the plane of the first line of the crosswalk while the light is still yellow, you at that point are committed to going thru the intersection.
Legally, you're not supposed to get cited for that. It's the point-of-no-return. You create a greater hazzard by trying to stop.
Maybe you were cited because you were making a left-hand turn. Still, were you waiting behind the crosswalk and then dashed thru after the light changed? Or, were you sitting part way into the intersection?

Nevermind. After looking closer at the photos, you can see the left-turn light was red before you hit the crosswalk.
note to self:
Make sure and duck under the dash board level and hide face completely next time I am entering an intersection through a red light.
An added plus, my head down my save my face from impacting the glass windshield in the event of a colision.
"The state made me do it occifer."
Makes me want to go out and get a ticket in my truck while driving it solely from the passenger seat (bench seat) Its a friggin trip to see me do that when you are in the car behind, looks like no driver. I can even do it while legally seat belted into the passenger harness.

I know what's in the pictures... But I really don't remember any of it. I think it's pretty funny... except for the $360!

The neighbor next door got the Red Light Camera ticket in the mail and he was not driving the car at the time. He had to tell the court who was driving, or pay the ticket. He gave the name and then got fined for not having them on his insurence. Needless to say he was not happy. Moral of the story .... Be carefull what you tell the court.

If this isn't the intersection you recall running the red turn light, then hold off on paying the ticket. You'll save .37 by sending in the money for both red-light tickets in one envelope. Boy, that "money for mods" fund is sure going to be sucked dry paying for your flagrant code violations. Here's the link you're going to need shortly.

Mine too. They do want the regular drivers of our vehicles to be listed on the policy (which they are). But not having a someone listed doesn't exclude them from driving one of my vehicles.

I'm just telling you what he told me. He was pretty upset that he got the ticket in the first place, so who knows perhaps he pissed off the judge.

ok this is a long shot...
Ask how the pictures are verified from tampering. In the UK and Australia traffic cameras can no longer be used as sole evidence.
More specifically: These systems used MD5 hashes to "verify" the images, but a computer literate person successfully fought the ticket by demonstrating and proving an MD5 hash can be created, artificially, to a modified image.
