Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
http://sc3g.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=672
Our former club website, sc3gfb.org, was bought out from under us before we could get it. The current owner isnt going to do anything with it, but I contacted him to see if he wanted to sell it. The website http://www.dnscoop.com/ says its worth $150, so I offered him $200, but he wants $250. I told him I would discuss it with you guys and see if we want it and at that price. That's 10 people at $25 or 25 people at $10. Bret, do we have anything left on hold in the treasury?

It sounds to me like the buyer bought it to price gouge, hoping that some of the old members would want it at any price. If we had the funds to do something like that, I would rather see us spend it to design some SC3G stickers or swag and let SC3GFB go.

If I may speak on the subject: Two points
Is there anyway to get a ".net" or a ".com"? Was that considered or mentioned yet?
Secondly, being that I am an old schooler like Kevin, Don, Brett, Lon, Tom K and actually remember SC3GFB and the old Cruisers meets back in the day, I'm gonna bet that only us old schoolers will really be that passionate about the old name sake. All these new guys dont know about those days and perhaps it doest mean much to them.
Same note, if it means that much, I say go for it. Big deal. You pay for it once and its done. You own it.
Otherwise, chauk it up as part of third gen so cal history and move on. SC3GFB is the old, and SC3G is the new.
Just my $0.02

I ask because we still have people who crawl out from under their rock and ask what happened to SC3GFB and Tom. If the website worked and pointed to our new site then those people would have somewhere to go. And there are still 4000+ links out there to the old site.

Of course you havent. You're from Canadia and this is a Southern California, USA forum. Why are you posting here?

It means something to me but I'm not going to spend $250 of my own money on it. And from the responses on this thread, it doesnt look like anyone else wants to chip in either. Oh well.

Re: Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
I am a little confused about all the sc3g boards now. .com, .org?
I haven't used it in many months because it forgot me, or something, and I was too lazy to sign up again.
What's important, does the local club have a place where we can discuss off topic things?

Re: Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
Julie, we only have one club website, http://www.sc3g.org/ . The sc3gfb.org website I am discussing is the original club website from 1999-2001.
Yes we have an off-topic board on our club website www.sc3g.org for discussing non-thirdgen things.
If you lost your password, send me a message and I will reset your password on that site.

My personal opinion is that SC3GFB is old news and defnitely not worth $250. Also, I wasn't all that crazy about that name. Too many letters.

Re: Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
He wrote back to me Tuesday. My last email with him was that we were going to discuss it at our meeting Dec 1st. I wrote back and told him we thought about it and it wasnt worth the price.
So he comes back and says he'll lower the price to $175.

Re: Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
If you want to wait him out I believe there is an auto-buy feature if the person doesn't renew. Maybe that's how that person got a hold of it in the first place, but just an idea. It's been a while since I looked up the info on it but as far as I know from when I DID read info on that it didn't cost anything to "cue up" for the name and if you were first on the list you then got charged the year or whatever you designated for how long you wanted to register it at the time of rollover.
Re: Do we want to buy sc3gfb.org?
I think it is old news. The name was way too long and the abbreviation still has too many letters. We had fun with the old board and the old club, but we never had as many active members as we do now as SC3G. I think it is just old baggage at this time. Let the guy eat what he paid for it.
