91 vert restoration

As a few of you know i bought shwartscamaro's vert or atleast i think thats his screen name lol. Well today a friend and I removed the engine and trans. Tomorrow I took the day off and hopefully we do the t5 swap on the vert. I have an 85 z28 i'm using as a donor car. I am keeping the trans and engine and am parting out the rest of it. So hopefully tomorrow we swap in the trans and engine and will be on the road. If not it'll have towait till we have time again. Anybody have a few tips on swapping trannys let me know before I jump into this swap.

Re: 91 vert restoration

An update:
I completed the engine swap just need to install the distributer, i removed the auto trans, cut the whole in the console for the manual shifter. I still need to cut the whole through the firewall, swap over the clutch pedal, and finally mount up the t5 tranny. It is honestly easier then i expected but real time consuming. So far its been 2 entire days of working on it and I still need another day maybe 2 to complete it. Hopefully it all goes well

Re: 91 vert restoration

See, but atleast you have the garage to do it in... I rent a room in a house... I dont even really have a driveway to change brakes or oil, let alone take on a project like that...

Does your car now have a tpi? If so, don't change the chip, contact Kevin to have your chip errased and burned for the t-5. There are some other little mods you would want done as well, and Kevin can also optimize your ship's settings for your engine. If you are running the set up you have listed in your signature in the first post on this thread, you will only be good until the car needs to be smogged. At your first smog test the intake manifold, carb, & manual choke are an automatic failure!

Re: 91 vert restoration

No my car is tbi. Yeah i know its automatic failure which is why i'm keeping tbi. That engine with mods listed on my sig is currently in my 85 z28. I am not going to install that engine on the vert. I want to keep this one stock to not have to hassle with smog. I contacted kevin about burning a chip but he said he doesn't do that for TBI. So I just bought the chip from johnybravo

Yeah, I think the old chip burning program Kevin had would burn tbi chips, but they had to upgrade the program because of bugs or something and for some reason the new program doesn't like tbi. What was the induction system on your 85 IROC originally? Are you keeping that car? An updated tpi system could get you as much power as your current set up with better economy and be smog legal.

Re: 91 vert restoration

no i'm parting out the car. Originally the car was carbed but I am removing the trans to do a 5spd swap on the vert and I already started parting it out.
