Burnout without knowing

Hi all! I am a fresh member if this forum, and I got my 84 Camaro berli last Sunday!

So I was told that the engine needs to warm up a little before driving... I did that the first few times... but today I though, what the hell, this thing runs good! And I decided to just start it, and I drove out ouf my street...

At the next red light I noticed that braking was a lot harder then normal.... I thought,... what the hell, maybe then are still cold or something...

20 secs later or so I heard people hitting their horns, and I heard someone yell YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BURNNNNNNN, Then I looked into my rear mirror.... And saw a big cloud of White smoke.... I was like, OMG!! WHATTTTT... immediatly shut down the engine, took my stuff, and got out of the car...

Once I got out, I mentioned that the smoke was coming from my tires... and there were these 2 big black strips on the road of burned rubber..... So.... The engine was revving too high stationary, and then overtook the rear brakes

I have learned form that and from now on I will wait a few minutes before I head off somewere

Re: Burnout without knowing

my 2nd gen camaro used to do that time to time, turned out the throttle cable was getting snagged so the carb would stay open about halfway end result being a burn out!!

choke may be sticky too.

Re: Burnout without knowing

i know what you mean about letting your car warm up, but i think there is something more to it then just letting it warm up. i mean, for it to overpower your rear brakes? sounds like something else is going on as well.
