The City of Santa Ana expects you as a motorist to obey the law, but they feel they are above the law, why, because the money is so good.
even the courts "unplublished" a ruling that hindered the govts ability to make money off the cameras.

 

Now here's a topic that has raised my ire, all through the USA - traffic cameras. Yes, it's all about the money, not safety. We know speed doesn't kill - it's the collisions that do, and unfortunately those seem to happen mostly at intersections. I grew up and learned how to drive in SoCal before traffic cameras, and remember clearly the daily wreckage at intersections by impatient drivers trying to beat the lights. Now, I've been out of state driving mostly in Hawaii for more than 30 years where nobody follows the rules of the road and yet accidents are few because drivers seem to be gracious to others sharing the roadways. Sadly, I don't see much "giving" in the way SoCal drivers operate their vehicles, and instead create unsafe environments by aggressive behavior, weaving across lanes and especially tailgating. I'm getting the impression red light cameras have acted to dampen those destructive impulses, because I see drivers actually stopping at intersections. That's a good thing, in my opinion, and although I instinctively rebel against Big Brother wielding this power, unfairly or not, I doubt there exist other options to prevent some idiot from running a red light and plowing into my Camaro. I guess that's pretty selfish of me, not having faith in other people to drive safely, to the point where I would support giving up personal freedoms to allow the state to control those who can't control themselves.

 

The problem here is the number of signalized intersections and the looooooong waits. If the lights were synchronized, like they were on Beach blvd for a few years, you would not have this problem. But synchronized lights reduce tickets and revenue, thats why Beach blvd is no longer synchronized.
Actually, the lights are somewhat synchronized, to a speed approximately 8-12 mph OVER the speed limit.
