Hello,

I have almost successfully transplanted a 1991 350 TPI into my 1987 Trans Am. We removed the 305 that was in there and I need some help.

We retained the "305" TPI as originally instructed and are keeping the V belt set up. BUT I need detailed pictures of the accessories and just some general shots of the vacuum lines and under the hood.

Better yet, anyone have a 1987 TPI V belt set up on a relatively stock vehicle that we can park next to my car and either take pics or copy? Odd request, I know. Any one near that San Fernando Valley?

We are so close, yet so far.

Please let me know! It would have to be a Saturday.

If anyone has any pics or can help me find something online that would be great too. I did a search in the forums, but nothing really near what I need.

Just curious why keep the v belt setup?

 

I didn’t want to, but I only have say 60% of the serpentine belt set up. When it came time to pick up the motor from the shop that pulled it from the donor car, there were bolts and parts all over the place. I think I’m missing pieces. It was easier just to piece the old V-belt set up go get the car running. Later on, I’ll find out what I’m missing and swap it over to the serpentine belt set up.

Problem is now I’m having a hard time doing that, lol.

Which water pump do you have on the 350? If your 350 is for a serpentine set up, the water pump runs backwards from the V-belt set up. You can run it backwards but they don't pump unless running correctly. To run the V-belt you need the correct water pump. The one off your 305 should fit the 350 and run correctly with the V-belt.
