Fluttering engine light
My story.
1985, 305 TPI Trans-AM is due for SMOG. So I change out the Hypertech chip with the stock one, turn the key to start and the check engine light is fluttering/pulsating. So I try to start and the only way to get it started and stay running is to feather the throttle. Runs very rough and won’t idle. Thinking the chip is messed up, I installed the Hypertech chip back in, but I’m now getting the same results from both chips.
Anyone ever had this happen to them, and if so, how did you remedy this? What did I do wrong?
I’ve tried discounting the battery to reset with same results.

Re: Fluttering engine light
I believe a constantly flashing MIL ( check engine light ) is caused only by a misfire or dead cylinder. I live in California and my car has a chip and still passes smog. Being that our cars are OBD1 the smog check machine would not pick it up would it? Sorry to awnser your question with a question.
