"Vote for freedom!!" I agree. The green types are going to far. It should be about what comes out of the tailpipe, nothing else.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
That will never happen, unfortunately. The latest copy of Hot Rod has an article by the editor, they met with the state years ago with a car with presumably no emissions equipment that passed the 2 day epa certification with flying colors and the state said... well thats nice but we have our program and thats that. Its all about power and money, they could care less about clean air. Its just a smoke screen.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
so ultimately, the so called tree huggers are the ones responsible for this?
I'm for clean air, but damn if you're gonna regulate, do it the correct way... straight across the board; ships, cars coming across our borders, exotic cars as well, reinstate the 25 year law ...
Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
California is not the Hot Rod capitol of the world anymore. It might have been that way 30 years ago but I hate to break it to you cali guys...
Having lived in several states, and coming from my home state of Florida, California's oppressive smog laws and police have killed the scene here. Seriously, the scene here doesn't even come close to what I came from in Florida, no smog check, no underhood inspection. Crawford performance was up the street (pioneer of the 347) force fuel injection, Steeda, crane cams, etc the list goes on... The only thing Cali had that we didn't was drag strips but now that has changed. There are more dragstrips per capita in south Florida than there are in southern California. He'll, my wifes former home town of Grand Junction, Colorado blows this place away, a road course, and a 1/4 mile for 100,000 people! Any given friday night during the summer you will see dozens upon dozens of hot rods, miatas with LS1s (flyin miata is based there).. with hoods open, proudly on display for anyone (including cops who don't care) when I saw this it was like a vision of heaven. It's like this in a lot of places. Why do you think that when you watch PINKS its always guys with a serious twang who are talking? Because that is where the scene is.
Basically what I'm saying is that the odds of you seeing a modded out car on california roads are much less than just about anywhere else in the country.
The fact that the old guys with their pre '75 cars only care about themselves is whats guaranteeing the doom of this hobby. People that care about those cars are eventually gonna get too old or die off and fewer and fewer of those cars will exist.
I can't wait to get back to a free state, and no the weather here is not that great. It never rains, everything is dead, the water at the beach is insanely cold. Bazillions of people... the traffic is horrible. I'm probably going to end up in Grand Junction where I can mod my cars, have my guns, and do generally what I want.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
Seems from reading here about all California has to cheer about anymore is the weather!!!! Would sure like to see the common sense people take over running the state from the idiots who do it now... Unfortunately, the biggest idiots have been sent to DC and are diligently trying to apply these "standards" to the rest of us!!!! Guess I'll continue to put up with winter (and our 90+mph snowmobiles!) before I would subject myself to all the control that California taks over it's residents. There's just too many people in the state, and it would seem to this outsider that the normal folk have allowed the most radical idiots they can find make the laws and run the state... Is the weather really so nice that you don't care about what the government is doing to you???

Yes maybe, but your laws from your state end up trickling to all the other states. For example, everything we touch causes cancer in California, most auto regulations originated from California. Wisc. is not the greatest state in the union, but we don't have all the frivolous laws other states have YET.

Pablo, you obviously have not been down on ANY given weekend morning to Dounut Derilicks, Cars and Coffee, etc. or any of the numerous car shows going on every weekend including John Forces every growing shows. I was head judge of Thunderfest for 10 years up in Covina and ran the NHRA exhibition portion of that show. Good guys, route 66, Pomona swapmeet, Vetrans stadium, OC cruise nights- the hot rods come out of the woodwork around here- sorry, but you must be blind or just not in the know.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
Of course we care about the Smog laws being too tough on some classic cars (older ones no longer have to pass smog). I also remember growing up in So Cal with 2nd and 3rd degree smog alerts and getting chest pains from playing a game of baseball. I can't remember the last smog alert. I have always been able to pass smog anyway.
Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
they where doing these as far back as the late 60's early 70's, i remember as a kid
we pulled into one, my dad being a hot rodder was sooo pissed off, they used to put
a little sticker on the windshield that said "approved"

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
When I had my car last smogged, the shop didn't want to touch my car since it had the SLP headers with the A.I.R. pipes and everything hooked up and running properly. The tech said "Unless I see a C.A.R.B. placard or sticker, I won't touch your car.
Luckily, I called SLP and they sent me two stickers with the C.A.R.B. #. He did sigh when he asked me where I lived. LOL. Yea, I know I told him.
And as far as the numbers being lowered, I hope I pass this time around or I am really going to **** them off and get an early 70's Camaro and and really **** them off with no cats.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
So just refuse the test, what is the big deal? Worst thing that can happen is they do a double look at your car on it's next emissions test. If everyone refuses then the state will stop doing it. The check points won't be justified if the show no results other then motorists who fail to participate and the state won't pay for them anymore.
disconnect your hood latch cable and say yes to a check and when they can't open the hood what are they going to do?

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
there's no way in "H" that my car would pass these damn tests.... it would barely pass the old test... mind you, I had to spend roughly 1K on new parts... 1/4 on labor ... O2 sensor, PCV valve, CAT, plugs, wires, Ign Module, Dist cap/rotor, air filter, Timing chain replacement (the first two emission test) I later switched to a double roller and eliminated the need for a chain replacement... oil change, Carb rebuild w/ tuning for emissions, then a tuning afterward for performance
...
btw... my smog station never bothered to look at my CARB decals, I have the Edelbrock TES headers... Edelbrock intake .. Compu Cam Mild Cam... Hypertech Power Chip... MSD Ignition Box...

If my car passes smog, ANY reasonably maintained, properly modified car should be able to pass an emissions test.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/sout...ions-test.html
I agree that roadside tests are an undue burden; I consider them a form of illegal search. It's bigtime BS, but hot-rodders really should not have to "fear" an emissions check.

Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
All my cars exc the 73 are Test Only anyway, so what can they do.
I suppose they can red flag my vin so when I go for the test the smog tech will know the car is being watched.
Fkg ****'s
My next car will probably be a restored pre 76 if I stay here.
The other option is to buy new, mod the crap out of it, pay the extra fine/tax to not have it smogged for the first 6 years then sell it out of State or dump on the dealer as a trade in for pennies on the dollar.

Meh, I could go on about how I've seen enough of so cal car culture to know that it doesn't impress me but there's no point. We'll have to agree to disagree. Suffice it to say I will be quite happy when I move back to America.
Re: WARNING!!! B.A.R. is at it again! WATCH IT OUT THERE GUYS!
I haven't? seems so in this case and at least you don't have to replace 3 of them. But this was 265.00 and my main cat is 180.00 .... So yes I have priced and am paying for the stuff. I'm sure the smog shop owner guy will tell you these are the numbers he is looking for.

all it is ... is words.... say you get your smog at any station prior to this so called voluntary test, say out of poor luck one of your emissions devices fails and you end up coughing up high pollutant in the sniffer test, you can rest assure that your butt next smog check will be required to take place at a smog only station...
... they will think you probably got your emissions test done under the table... it's all freeeeeekin' politics... everywhere you go... if you don't believe me, read up on lemonade stands... Supreme Member

The car hobbyists both late model and old schoolers keep a number of companies in existence which are on our side figting these gestappo laws off.
Think Edelbrock would take a huge hit if it couldnt sell parts?
Another way to help out is to quit buying those cheapo Chinese performance parts and spend with US companies that help keep our hobby legal.
Were all in the same boat, bro.

I wouldnt say that, lots of us drive late model stuff too and feel the pinch on smog guys tightening up. Personally I got sick of trying to get power and pass smog which CAN be done just not to the power level I liked so when back to old school roots.

Ok heres a question. I bought my Camaro in Oregon but havent registered it yet in CA. I pulled the engine out and am going to rebuild it to factory stock specs along with my tpi to stock specs. As for the cats. the original cats are still there. Will I have to go buy the super expensive CA cats? Or can I keep the ones that are there? Granted we only have one smog check here in Siskiyou County as long as you own the vehicle...none of the 2 year crap that most other counties in CA has.

as long as they look old and beat up, you should be fine... I think I read "if they look new and shiny," then you better be prepared to show the ARB number....

California USED to be the Hot Rod Capital of the World. With smog and the regulations, it is getting damn near impossible to do anything, compared to other states. For example, there is a new law on the books that means that you can build only ONE custom bike in your life in California. That is why so many builders have left the state...

Not sure what the number is, but it's true Tom. So if your gonna build yourself a custom Harley make sure you do it exactly how you want it, cuz you only get 1 chance. I guess you can can always put it under your wifes name but.........

It may be under the custom vehicle thing. They allow something like 500 a year to be built and registered, and as I understand it (never tried) its a mad dash on Jan 1 to get in line. Looks like they probably added another stipulation.

No hope in change for the better in SAC, they reelected Moonbeam again for Gov, the *** lover from SF and the crazy biotch.
Most of CA's voters are ignorant.

There are ways this can happen legitimately, depending on the circumstances. If you just bought the car, can happen. If you were way late on your last bi-annual check this can happen. If you've owned the car a while, the last test was an on time bi-annual check, then you will need to contact the BAR and complain. If they're off schedule they should clear that problem up but do not be surprised if it gets messed up again in a couple years.

Well I guess it's the registering my car for the first time after being on non-operating status. But funny thing is that it passed with great results. First time this happend since I got the car in 93. Oh well.
