Go to www.slponline.com and get their takeoff torsen posi for $99. Then go to the 4th gen boards, either www.camaroz28.com or www.ls1.com and buy someone's used 3.23 or 3.42 gears for $50. Dont forget about your speedo gears in your trans, too. They're about $20. Then take it to a good shop to have it all installed, as gear changes are complicated and require special tools and knowledge to do correctly. This costs about $200-300. Good luck!

'Scuse my ignorance, but doesn't he also need a series 3 carrier to put any gear ratio beyond 3.08 in his current housing?

The Zexel-Torsen take outs from SLP will handle 3.23, 3.42, 3.73 and I think 4.10. I have it with 3.23's

Nice to see ya post

Hey there Rusty, I know its got nothing to do with the thread you started here, other than the fact that I would like the same setup for the RS, but just thought I would welcome you to the board

The torsen take-off posi SLP sells *IS* a 3-series carrier.

Good to know if you've got a 10-bolt, (which I don't anymore). Lon

Sorry. I didn't mean to imply I wanted a 10 bolt. Just remove one bolt and it will be a 9-bolt! LOL

like I said before Kevin deleted my post: Just get a v6 rear with 3.42s and a $85 SLP posi and save the money you'd be giving for the price of gears plus the price for someone to install them. I saw $400 around Northridge for GM gears including install, for a price comparison.

Got any idea what a '90-92 V-6 rear w/3:42's would cost (w/28 splined axles?

Do the math!

If you could find a used rear for $50 (good luck, boneyards around here charge more like 80+ plus core) you'd still have to set the pattern and backlash, since carriers and bearings all not all created equal. Thats if you want it to be right anyway.

I didnt do crap to you. And like Chris said, you still have to double check the pinion setting, backlash, and preload if you want it to be 100% correct.

Well, I always knew you didnt know a whole lot and this just proves it. Tell me Tas, exactly how many gear swaps have you done? How many differentials have you setup in your life? How many times have you had to change out a bad carrier with a new one? Sometimes they work out ok just swapping one in for the other. I've never had such luck. I had one that was so much different, the gear wouldnt even turn.

Keep on passing bad advice, maybe someone will get pissed off enough at you to come after you.

I wasn't BSing about that. I did it because someone deleted my post. And it wasn't him, who was it?

Any admin could have deleted the post too, so it wasnt necessarily Kevin that did it.
