GM Shootout Results (from Kevin)
We had problems all day yesterday. Usually the 13th is a lucky number for me, but not this time. It started in the morning at the first meeting spot, my dad's alternator died as we were driving along. We get to Carmenita and thankfully he brought a spare. 5 minutes of changing it and we were back on the road. Nobody else showed up at either meeting spot, but we were on the phone with Jerry and met him on the 5 freeway. We get there and get in line and go thru tech with no problems. When it came to racing, I forgot and left my street chip in, and pulled off a 13.50-something at 105 MPH. The next run I put the race chip in, and disaster struck. As soon as I hit 3rd gear, the trans broke and started making grinding noises. I cursed it as I limped the car off the track. I parked it on the return road as it wouldnt go forward anymore in any gear. My dad was racing right behind me, so he pulled up along side, and we tried to figure out how to get it back to the pits. We managed to get it to go without too much noise in 4th gear, and got it back to the pits, where I was done for the day. We called my dad's friend who lives in Taft and owns a wrecking yard to bring his tow truck. That was at noon. Around 5pm he still hadnt shown up, so we called back and it turns out his tow truck was down and he couldnt make it. Thankfully Tom Costello from the SCFB was kind enough to let us use his trailer, and we took it over to the yard. We're gonna go up there today with my spare T5 and either change it there, or use a trailer and bring it back to change here. We were supposed to borrow a trailer from a friend to use there, but someone else was using it and hadnt brought it back by Friday.
My dad's results were a little better but not much. He didnt break anything thankfully, but the car was very difficult to tune with the 350 engine and headers. He had a string of low 14's as we played with fuel pressure, timing, and different chips, but he managed to get a 13.86 @ 100.17 MPH, and backed it up with a 13.91 @ 99 MPH. Thats about a tenth and 2 MPH faster than previously. In the race itself, he red lit with a .435 reaction time, but bought back in to race again, and won that race. However on his next pass, he red lit again with a .492 reaction. What a bummer.
And in all the excitement about my trans, we forgot to get our event t-shirts! We went over there once and the guy wasnt around, he was up racing, and then forgot to go back. Hopefully he has more.
So, who needs me to make them a custom chip? I'll need some extra money now to get me a good McLeod clutch so I can install my T56.

Sorry to hear that man.. but we knew the trans was going to die at some point, right? I still need that chip made, but I haven't been able to get ahold of you. I was wanting to have it done today but couldn't get ahold of you or your dad. Maybe next weekend?
