Check to see if there's power to the motor with a test light, if there is, then the pull down motor is more than likely bad.

Hope this helps you out.

If you have tested the power to the motor with a test light or an ohm meter and it doesn't work when the switch is pressed, it could be a bad pull down motor.

How did you test the power going to it?

The motor is new and I can put power straight to it out of the car and it will run. I have power to the relay and to the plug that goes to the motor

Strange, is it a new relay that was replaced? I'm wondering if there's not enough power coming out of the relay to the motor.

We just reused the bolts that were there, I'm not sure of the exact size of them. If you go to the dealer, they might be able to look at the bolt size and get them for you, or you could go to your local salvage yard.

If you post up in the interior part of the forum, one of the members might know what size they are.

Re: 1986 - 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Rear Hatch Pull Down Motor

OK ME AGAIN, I PUT THE REAR PULL DOWN TRUNK MOTOR IN, I PLUGGED IN THE MOTOR JUST LIKE THE VIDEO, AND WHEN I DID THAT, I DID NOT HEAR THE MOTOR WIND. NO NOISE, NOTHING, THE INSIDE LIGHT TURNS ON, SO IM THINKING THERE IS POWER BACK THERE, IF I PRESS THE SWITCH INSIDE THE CAMARO BY THE ARM REST IT CLICKS. WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE LOCK CYLINDER, IT WONT EVEN DO ANYTHING EITHER. WHAT CAN IT BE NOW? I NEED HELP PLEASE.

Got it working!!! The relay that goes on the motor had a up and down switch, just had to adjust the gear nut, so many times so the rear hatch could open up.

Re: 1986 - 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Rear Hatch Pull Down Motor

Hey, I have an issue with my pull down motor. I just purchased my 91' firebird a couple months ago , and this is one of the minor issues she has.

The motor does not lower. The latch seems to work fine, but only works with the key. When I push the trunk release button, I hear a rapid clicking noise, but nothing else happens.

Does this mean my motor is bad?

I'll remove the motor this weekend when I have time. I've watched your video on youtube and it looks simple enough.

Thanks,
Frito

Re: 1986 - 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Rear Hatch Pull Down Motor

I just bought the motor housing but I realize I am missing the reverse switch and the keylock assembling I am missing the key so I need a new one. the latch release opens the latch but not sure if motor will work without the reverse switch but it has 12v so should be fine

do you sell new key assemblies that fit the trunk. I bought a cheap advanced auto one and the tumbler shaft that should turn the hatch release was so flimsy and so thin it would stay in position. Looking for a 3 key lock set so both doors and trunk use same key? or can i re key originals?

also do you sell the reverse switch?

HI, We currently do not carry the tumbler or the reverse switch. Thanks for asking.
