Hit a bump and i'm out of control????
hey guys... finally got the camaro on the road...pretty awsome..but......when i hit a pot hole..(lots from the salt)my car ..well it feels like the back end is swinging left and right...and i have to yank on the wheel..... like in nascar when the car gets "loose"....i have to cut the wheel in the drirection i'm going........
rear shocks are shot ...but would that cause horizontal movement???

Replace the shocks and maybe springs depending how bad they are. That a start and not to hard while your doing this check all rear end parts and bushings for wear.

actually i just read a post where people said it could be "bump steer" ....i do have some pretty fat tires on......they stick out of the well pretty much.......or i think i heard it called "hunting'.....sorry....to post...i just found that info..but....i am going to replace the rear bushings...
they are all cracked...... do i have to order these from GM.....or will locals like pepboys have them..

A wheel that's up off the ground has zero grip, so for a few milliseconds at a time for each bump you have much less lateral grip out back, and it will swing or "skitter" wide. Since the car is suspended on springs the weight carried by the right wheel (for example) does not immediately transfer to the left wheel. Even in a straight line with an open diff you have unequal traction during millisecond-magnitude periods of time, which will rotate the car slightly.
