Hit a bump and i'm out of control????

hey guys... finally got the camaro on the road...pretty awsome..but......when i hit a pot hole..(lots from the salt)my car ..well it feels like the back end is swinging left and right...and i have to yank on the wheel..... like in nascar when the car gets "loose"....i have to cut the wheel in the drirection i'm going........

rear shocks are shot ...but would that cause horizontal movement???

its exhuasting to drive

thanx..

Replace the shocks and maybe springs depending how bad they are. That a start and not to hard while your doing this check all rear end parts and bushings for wear.

I'm not sure abouot pep boys but i believe that you can easily get some poly bushings for a fair price, I'm not sure though.

It can, particularly if you are in a curve. This is a pretty good example for illustrating the difference between static conditions (that are easy to visualize since things are not changing over time) and dynamic conditions (where things are constantly moving and changing). The purpose of shocks is to control dynamic suspension behavior.

A wheel that's up off the ground has zero grip, so for a few milliseconds at a time for each bump you have much less lateral grip out back, and it will swing or "skitter" wide. Since the car is suspended on springs the weight carried by the right wheel (for example) does not immediately transfer to the left wheel. Even in a straight line with an open diff you have unequal traction during millisecond-magnitude periods of time, which will rotate the car slightly.
