Strange 4-piston brake kit
Hey guys, I see a lot of postings about the 1LE kit and how much it costs, availability of parts, etc. I emailed Bruce at hawksthirdgen.com and he sells a kit for the 3rd gens for $660. I have an email out now to find out what comes in the kit. Has anyone else bought one of these kits? I think that it is a good deal. I did a search of the thirdgen.org site but found that no one had any postings. What is up?

Well I PAID $599 for my wilwood PRO STREET rear disk kit on my car...Its fine for the street...
It uses a 12" rear vented rotor....4 Piston Calipers....And HAs A DRUM bRake Emergency Brake...Like the early c4 vettes have.....ESSENTIALY the HAT of the rotor is a drum for the e-brake...Which is better for Holding power and Is not bad to use at the track LIKE a DISK e-brake that could weld itself to a hot rotor..
Inside the 16"GTA rim you would not want any LARGER brakes....there is less than 1/4 inch between the edge of the caliper and the Indentation on my rim....
I was impressed with it....Especially after reading all the slams about wimpy rotor size...This thing makes the front GTA rotor look like a BABYs toy...

The kit is for the front brakes, and why couldn't you use a brake kit on the street? What would it hurt?

Well Mine is on the rear but they make it for the front... Basically the only difference between the pro street kit and the drag kit is The Pro Street kit COMES with Vented rotors...and the rotors Have more MEAT on them as in they are thicker...
A drag kit has Thinner NON vented rotors...Vented is an option..but you pay more for it....
The reason they are drag only is because they are so thin you would be running out of Rotor quickly doing stop and go driving...Plus without the vents the rotor would run HOT... Plus I believe the drag kits come with a different compound pad thats not a good idea for street driviong because of the heat generated....
BUT the brackets are the same reguardless of the kit....The Calipers are the same reguardless of the kit...Unless you opt on a composite caliper or something ike that......The Actual HAT of the rotor is the same reguardless of the kit...Its just the OUTEr ring that BOLTS to the hat thats thinner.... As those kits use 2 piece rotors..

Thanks Kenwood, I appreciate it.
I think that Strange is the brake company for me. So you think I should buy there $660 front kit and get the vented rotors? I think that is what I'll do.

TAS... Well Ive got like 2 pics of it off the car...None on the car...Problem was I took them in too high fo a resollution so thirdgen kick the pic out when I try to post it....
No I dont have the FRONTS YET...LOL....Guido and I Laughed at the car the other night at the track Because my REar Rotor completely covers the honeycomb part of the gta wheel....Then my Fornt setup you see nothing but daylight aaround the perimeter of the honeycomb part...Its really funny to see up close...
Whn Iget my engine fixed Ill Invest in the front set... But for right now Im in IGNITION HELL...
SPODEBOY.... I dont know if strange offers a vented kit or not... I was referring to the wilwood kits...And I understand that the AEROSPACE kits work the same way....Basically its just a different rotor that bolts to the hat.... Herll for that Matter I know Speedway sells different thickness and types of rotors to bolt to the hats...
I think that the other PROBLEM with legality is that you HAVE to use steel braided lines to hook the calipers up...They willnot screw riight into the factory lines.. Well no one makes a -3 to -3 STREET Legal Brake line.....that Ive ever seen...
You will need some conversion fittings to go from the GM Jap Metric fittings to -3 or -4 AN....then you will need to Adapt the caliper to -3 or -4...On mine I went from 1/8 NPT on my caliper to -3 the Braided line back to the T fitting on the diff...I needed special -3 to JAP Metric converters to make it work as well...It was a pita to get right..
