Major Wheel Hop...
Well, my wheel hop is getting worse by the day. I know that LCA's, aftermarket Tourke arm and such will fix the problem, but I cant afford that right now.
Off the line, rippin through second, and a tad in third is when I get hop. I notice my rear sitting lower than it used to, so the question is: Will a good set of rear shocks help this at all? I know shocks arent the cure, but its just about all I can afford at this
point. Any reasonably priced recommendations?
Thanx

Shocks don't hold the car up, so new ones won't raise the back end up to normal. Shocks won't do much if anything to help wheel hop anyway--I tried this. LCA relocation brackets cured my wheel hop problem. They are well worth the cost--save up until you can afford the brackets.

SPRINGS! It seems the magic traction formula for 3rd gens or any car with control arms is to get the proper angle on the lower control arms. Take a look at your lower control arms. It may be hard to see but look at the angle of the arm compared to the ground. You want the back of the arm, the end on the rearend, to be pointing down towards the ground.
Hence the idea behind relocation brackets. In your case your worn out springs have lowered your car to the point of messing up the angle of the rear control arms. So try adding some good springs. New ones cost bout 50 bucks or you can shop around in junk yards for a set that look good.

Thanks guys! For the time beings, Im gonna replace the springs and shocks for now. I am not going with lowering springs... I would LOVE them, but I dont have the ground clearance as it is, any lower would just kill me. Ill get those shocks, and springs and let ya'll know how it turns out!

another .02 for today ...
I'd just go right for the shocks first .... you know they only last 30k miles , and springs are usually good for 200k miles :\ aren't the LCA brackets for fixing the problem caused by lowering the car ??? does anyone run these on a stock height car ??? you also might want to check ALL your bushing ..LCA , panhard , shocks , torque arm , trans mount .... once the hamonic vibration starts , it grows into wheel hop , shocks and rubber are good ways of "tuning" it out . Since you point out that it occurs ripping into 3rd , look into getting poly bushings into your LCA's .. a fairly cheap mod that'll more than likely solve that problem completely ....

LCA relocation brackets are not solely used in lowered cars... I bought a set from Steve (I am lowering the car) and in the instuctions he says that they benifit non lowered cars as well. I do agree that the LCA bushings are the cause for most wheel hop, but the added strength of aftermarket LCA's can only help.
Since you don't have the money for new LCA's try just the bushings, that could be all you need. If that doesn't work go for the shocks.

Also, for some odd reason, one shock is a different color than the other, which leads me to believe the previous owner only had one replaced for some odd reason. Thanks for all the replys guys, keep em comin!

Oh yeah... any recomendations on which shocks to get? (resonably priced remember) Im not too keen on suspension products here!
If your car is sitting lower than it used to I would recommend changing the springs and shocks both. This and possibly lca bushings should get you back to where you were stock at least. From what I have heard the lower control arm relocation brackets get rid of a lot of wheel hop. Just in case you are confused they do not lower the car, they just change the agles of your lower control arms.
