Poping/clunking noise with wheels turned full to right..Help

If I turn the wheel all the way to the rigth and start to back up I hear some sort of Pop/clunk noise from the front end. I know it is not the tire rubbing or hitting the wheel turn lock thing. Is it possible that this is the steering box frame crack? Or any other thoughts?
Thanks
Ray

Check your ball joints for wear.

I have the same problem with my car but I only notice it while driving forward and the wheel turned to the right.

What's the best way to check the ball joints and what should I look for?? The ball joints are fairly new, is it possable to have defective ones. I only here it on the driver side.

Jack up the car with a floor jack placed under the spring pocket of the lower control arm. Raise it until the front tire is off the ground and your can get a long pry bar or similar bar under the tire. Lift up on the tire with the bar while watching the joint for movement.
With regards to the ? about new joints having this problem; yes we have seen it with some of the aftermarket joints.

You know, I'm having this problem too. I only experience this problem whenever I make a sharp turn or turn the steering wheel all the way until it locks. However, if I'm moving on the road, I don't get the sound at all.

Is the popping noise anything to be concerned about?

I have (had?) the same problem on my 75K mile '91 RS. I replaced the front bearings and I don't notice it anymore, but I should go ahead and replace the ball joints. too. Check your bearings.
