Where can I get clevis ends?
Where can I get clevis ends? I got the main part of the BMR 3-point STB installed. One of the smaller rods won't quite reach the bracket that installs on the firewall lip. I think that the easiest way to get it to reach would be to use a clevis end with a longer threaded part.
Here's a picture:
I searched google for clevis ends and found stuff that didn't even resemble what I need. I want clevis ends like the two on the right, directly underneath the two short rods.

I am also thinking of lengthening the clevis end I have by cutting it in two and welding some extra metal in between the two parts. I'll check on the Moroso, other clevis ends first.

I used a coupler and a stud from Lowe's. The stud was about 65% fine thread and 35% coarse. The coupler was coarse so I left the length of the coarse part of the stud coarse thread, and tapped the rest of the coupler for fine thread. The coarse part of the stud went in the coarse part of the coupler. The fine part of the stud went into the short rod of the STB. The clevis end (which I shortened) went into the fine part of the coupler. It works well.
Just a note for everyone that will be installing a STB:
I measured and centered the brace with respect to the stock castor/camber plates. My brace is dead-on as far as they go. However, it is about 3/4" off-center to the pass side with respect to the body, which is why I had to use the coupler. It made sense to me at the time to center the brace on the strut towers since they are the things that are being braced. With a 3-point brace, though, it's obviously better to center the brace on the body--if I had measured to the edge of the quarter panel, right next to the edge of the hood, the brace would have fit just fine.
My brace doesn't look bad, but it's not quite as nice as it would have been. I guess that after you measure, it's a good idea to step back and just look at it to make sure you're doing what you want to do. The weird part is that while my dad and I were building the Cobra in sig, I was always the one stepping back and looking at everything to make sure it was what we wanted. It's amazing how small of a discrepancy you can pick out eyeballing something from 10 or 20 feet away.
Oh yeah--the pass side tube that connects to the center section of the brace was welded on crooked. I may have been able to get the brace to fit without any modification if it had been welded straight.
