Rear drum swap for discs
I am interested in swapping my rear drum brakes out of an 88 trans am 305 tpi with discs. Do I need to replace the rear axle all together or can I accomodate discs on the one I have now? Also, what companies offer smog legal crate engines for f body cars?

Gee sorry Brad, I thought the second part of my question was related to engine swaps, but I'll try to be more careful with separating the categories next time buddy. Relax live longer.

Yes you can swap disc brakes onto a drum axle, but unless you really want to keep the gears and posi, get a whole new rear. The swap can be pretty pricey if you get all new parts when swapping to the late model disc setup. It can be done relativly cheaply with the 4th gen setup though. They go for ~$200-400 on ebay (new loaded calipers for the late model are ~$200 each) With the 4th gen version you have to play around with the ebrake cables though. If you want to see how to swap the late model brakes, look here: www.omega185.cz28.com/photo4.html
