I am going to be getting some 17x8 wheels for my car and need to get new tires. I am going to get either the BFG G-Force KDWS or KDW tires. The car will be an everyday driver with some quarter mile and autocross duty. Would I be better with the 255/50R17 tires or the 255/45R17 tires?

 

I don't know the overall specs of each tire but you can check that out on Tireracks website. They will give you the overall height and with of each tire. As for Auto-x, the lower profile and stronger sidewall will handle better. Both are nogood off the line in a 1/4 mile so that doesn't matter. It would be hard to get an a decent tire under the car for the 1/4 unless you raise it or tub it.
I've alway been a diehard for BFG's. KD's are the best in dry but you have to go to 18" rims. KDW's are the next best thing. Don't know much about KDWS's, but I don't like the looks of them. Comp T/A's were always great in the past. Radial T/A's are down right scary. I've purchased a least 30 sets of BFG's in my life including R1's on my auto-x vette (335/35/17's on the rear and I still lite it up at 70 mph. Gotta watch the throttle.)

 

255/50-17 will be too tall and rub. go with the 255/45-17
