Time out for a measurement- That's what she said.
Hello all...
Looking for some info before I pull the rear out of my 90 Formula 350...
First, does anyone have the center-to-center distance on the panhard bar? LCA's? (Thinking of making my own w/ rods ends, but I need someplace to start.)
Also, I counted 10 bolts on my diff. cover, so I know I don't have a BW (not supposed to, am I?), but what rear do I have? I want to buy gears (possibly) and I know I need axle seals and a pinion seal, so what "gear diameter" do I use when I shop? How many spline axles? How hard is it to change the pinion seal? What's the capital of Cuba? (oops, one question too many...)
TIA for any info and help. This board never ceases to impress me.

10 bolt is the GM 7.5/7.625(they interchange) ring gear with 28 spline axles. Axle seals are more involved than the pinion seal.
Remove driveshaft
Mark and remove big nut
Remove yoke
pop old seal out
install new seal
install yoke
install nut and tighten to the same position as before
install driveshaft.
Do some searches, this has been done before.
Havana I think...
Not sure on the panhard bar and LCA's, I'm at work and didn't drive the Camaro today.

Get 12 pack of favorite adult beverage
Raise and support rear of vehicle.
Pull wheels and brake assemblies.
Guzzle 2 of 12 pack.
Remove 10 bolts from cover, watch gear lube drain on floor,
scramble for drain pan. remove cover and drink another while the lube drains into pan.
Rotate ring gear carrier till you see a 5/16 (or is it 10mm
) bolt head sticking out the right side of the carrier. Say a small prayer that it comes out without breaking.
Remove pinion shaft lock bolt and slide the pinion shaft out and catch the pinion gears and thrust washers. (you may wish to clean and mark them for re-assembly into the same location).
Crawl out from under car and have another.
Push in on the axle flanges. (the things the wheels bolt onto).
Crawl back under car and remove the c-clips from the end of the axle shafts.
Crawl back out and pull the shafts out.
R&R the axle seals (and bearings if you are so inclined, but that is more technical/tool intensive than I want to get into here).
Re-assemble in reverse order.
Finish the rest of the beverages and pass out at your convenience
Seriously though, if you want to do this and the ring and pinion change, get a FACTORY year specific service manual, ( I am a firm believer in factory manuals cause they built it and know how to fix it ).
It's not that difficult to do. Just pay attention to what you are doing.
