Do 3rd gen wheels fit 2nd gen?

I have a buddy who just got a '77 camaro and all of the money went into the motor. He needs some new wheels and tires bad and I have my old 15x7's (factory RS wheels) that I can sell him. Are 2nd gen bolt patterns the same as 3rd gens. I know that fourth and third differ but wasn't sure about other years.

I have an '89 and a '74 firebird. My '74 has the rally-2 wheels (15x7 I think, not sure though), and my '89 has the gta style 16x8s. I swap wheels ALL THE time. In fact last week I got a flat on one of the front wheels of the '89, so I just drove home, jacked up the '74, grabbed a wheel and was on the road again. And when I wear my tires down on the '89, I but them on the back of hte '74 and drift on them until nothing is left.

So the short answer: YES

That is great! So which lug nuts do you use. Do I use the ones with the RS 15x7's or the ones that are on the '77 camaro?

Well before you take rims from a second gen, remember that they tend to be smaller than what you probably want. But you could take them.

The thread pattern on my second gen and third gen are slightly different, so I leave the third gen's lugs on the third gen at all times, and the second gen on the second at all times. Just make sure you arn't using steel-wheel lugs w/ aluminum wheels.

Henry C,

Do you know if the stock wheels off of a 3rd gen are aluminum. I am pretty sure that they are. Can you buy aluminum lug nuts?

ITs not the material you need to watch out for. You need to make sure the lugs arn't going to scrape off the aluminum and then weld themselves to the lug nuts. (I had this issue once when a local Firestone put the wrong lug nuts on my car). With the stock wheels (not the GTAs), I think you can still reuse your lugs and be fine. IF you want, swap them, drive around, and take your wrench out after a hundred miles or so and see if they still come off.

If not, get the ol' impact wrench and new lugs.
