Problem installing KYB shocks
Problem installing KYB shocks
Need some advice! I installed some KYB gas-a-just (KG5562)shocks over the weekend. The top nut bottomed out (ran out of threads) before it conpressed the rubbers. It is tight but no compression. I installed the saucer washers and rubbers right but I always thought you were supposed to tighten these down until the rubber was as wide as the saucers. So should I add some washers and tighten down more???
The originals I took off where twice as wide and twice as thick.

How tight is tight?
Hey.
I run the same shocks on my Formula, and I did not run the nut down as far as you did (looking at the amount of exposed threads in your photo). Close, but not quite. As long as the bushing is not free to move around you should be just fine. It will not look like the factory assembly, that's for sure. I just ran the nut down until I saw some compression of the bushing, and double-nutted the suckers in place. I bet you could do the same just as things are. Ensure that the shock bushings (upper and lower, referring to their relationship to the mounting hole) are seated and let her ride.

Just like these guys said. I installed mine yesterday and they're the same. It's not the case with these bushings as it is with end links.
