wheel & tire size help..for drag use

Hi, i have an 84 firebird that i would like to drag race, with a stock width axle what size wheel and back spacing is best and whats the largest tire i can fit under it? THANKS!

15" is pretty much the standard size for slicks, but you'll see others. 4.5 is the bs on a thirdgen. i have 6" wheels, (i think) on my car. remember if you run slicks you may have to use longer studs and open nuts to pass tech.

I run a 30x12.5x15 tire on my '85 camaro. with stock suspension, I'd run a 26" or 28" x 10". new springs and SSM Lift Bars lifted my rear end up a bit so I put bigger tires on there. Also, dented in the fenderwells with a sledge hammer to permit big tires.
