when you look at them you'll notice the z28 spring will have one more coil. also you'll notice on the z28 springs there will be 3 close together and the rest of the coils further apart. the rs springs only have on close coil and the rest further apart. yes the spring rates are different. the z28 springs will become stiffer the more you compress them. by the way, these are called progressive rate springs. specific rate springs have the same distance between all the coils.

although I dont know the rates. i do know that the Z28 springs are stiffer then the RS springs. Also from what I know of it will ever so slightly lower your car.

I have to differ with you, guys. I have an '88 Iroc and a '91 RS. BOTH cars have the exact same springs: BZW front and NNL rear. The RS is a F41 equipped car and sits lower than the Iroc (stock). The Iroc now has Eibachs but is not on the wheels at the moment.
Spring rates will depend on the suspension package, F41, FE1, 2, or 3.

Don't waste your time on a set of used springs. They were worn out (fatigued) within 10,000 miles. Factory springs are always softer than any aftermarket ones anyway: they are attempting to satisfy a far wider range of tastes than the performance enthusiast. Of all the things that makes no sense to be concerned about what codes are on used ones you have, springs would be near the top of the list.
A set of news ones is less than $75. They're better than any of the factory ones, from any car, any year, even when they were brand new.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Why would the RS sit lower? I dunno that but it does (did). The Iroc had about 2 inches of wheelwell space, but the RS only has a little over an inch. Both have 245-50/16s.
IMO, the RS is heavier by a bit...no aluminum spare or driveshaft, but this weight is probably negligible. That's splitting hairs...

there's nothing to dispute on the description of the springs. i just put a set of 92 z28 springs in place of 92 rs springs. now for that year they are different. the reason the rs sits lower is because of the lower (weaker) spring rate. the z28 springs are stiffer. so the don't compress as much with the same weight applied to them.
