What are some of the better performing tires for third gens? i mean for traction handling and what not. are there certain brands that are better than others (I woud assume there are) but which ones. Are Khumos better than Michelins but not as good as Goodyears or something?

Yokohama AVS Intermediates. Very sticky. Very responsive. Wear good with proper alignment. And relativly in-expensive. NOT THE BEST IN THE RAIN. I DONT DRIVE MY CAMARO IN THE SNOW EITHER.
One word of caution with these tires, they are so sticky they will pick up sand off of the road, and you will hear them hitting the under side of your car.

Firestone Firehawk SV50 EP Are about the best you can get on a 16" rim unless you go to an autocross tire.
The SV50 EP (has to be the EP version- this stands for Extended Performance) are the best ranked when you consider wet & dry overall performance and an added bonus of a very comfortable and quiet ride combined with good tread wear. I've owned 2 sets now, One set of SV50 & One set of SV50 EP, The regular ones were above adverage while the EP's were great.
I originally got this info off of Tireracks site with their comparisons and performance ratings and I must say they lived up to exactly what the comparison ratings said.
I have for years been a diehard for BFG's but decided to be openminded a give something else a try for once. I ended up trying them twice. I will be going to 18's on this car real soon ( Three months max.) because I have waiting to tryout the BFG KD's and they don't offer any in 16".

For the $ I Love the Kuhmos, they are a great autoX / weekend tire for me, my only complaint is that they don't have very good "forward bite" or straight line traction, but with the torque of a 388 what do you do
I have the Firestone firehawk SZ50 EP's that were mentioned earlier and absolutely LOVE THEM!
Firestone was offering these tires (some places they may still be doing this) at 55% off because of their own financial problems due to the recalls on their other line of tires. So these tires were normally $1 800 Canadian I got them for $946 installed, balanced, aligned, with warranty etc. an absolutely SMOKING deal!
The tires perform awesome. The only thing they don't like is cold pavement. They do AWESOMe in wet, dry, etc. but when it's really cold outside and a slight frost they'll wander, but almost any tire is going to do that.
I hear good things about the Kumho's and the BFG G-force line as well.

I am a full time tech in a Firestone store. I decided to use the Dayton Daytona 245/50ZR16 tires. They are awesome! Much less expensive compared to the Firestone SV50 EP, and it is essentially the same tire.
Dayton is a subsidiary of Firestone.

Speaking of tires & wheels. Does anybody know if there's a site that has pics of different wheel & tire sizes on third gens'? I'm getting ready to get some tires & new wheels, but would like to see what they are gonna look like on a camaro, before I shell out 12-1400 bucks, and then see what they look like on my car....

i'm running 245/60/r15 goodyear eagle gt+4 tires. they seem to be ok, but i think i want a stickier tire.
Just another vote for the firestones. I can't belive how well they stick and wet traction is worlds better than the goodyears i had on there. I went with the 255's rear and 245's front. I did a lot of research prior to getting them and most pepole really recommend them from ther own personal experiences. I will definetly buy them again

Not long! Maybe 18,000 miles or so. The ultra high performance tires are very sticky, and don't last long.
But they sure do bite into the pavement on corners.
