Part numbers of 1LE wheel bearings for TIMKEN

Anybody have the TIMKEN part numbers for the 1LE inner and outer wheel bearings?

I don't have the "part number" so to speak, but I used Set 3 and Set 6. Check the photos on my page if you need to.

Ok, thats what I got from Autozone but I wasn't sure if they were the right ones so I picked up a pair of outer bearings from another store yesterday and what should be the outer pair of the Timken's is much larger than the outer pair of the Federal Moguls I picked up (even though the Federal Moguls have the same part number as the outer bearings listed in the tech article) So both the Timken's and the Federal Moguls I have claim to be the outer set while one is larger than the other. The Timken's are actually too big to fit in the outer part of the rotor, yet they may fit in the back part.

QUESTION: which set of bearings is larger than the other - is inner larger than outer? or the other way around?

Andy,

The part numbers are either different or have changed. And the reason I'm asking is because you only included ONE of the bearings when most people will probably replace both, even the tech article has both bearings listed.

The bearings that were sold to me from Autozone were correct. Timken Set 3 (outer) and Set 6 (inner), while Federal Mogul outer bearing is A-3 as the tech article states. I've got it all together, I just ran into a problem where I stripped the threads in the driver side caliper so the car is laid up for a few days until I get replacement caliper (which through a complicated process will only cost me $10 more overall).

"I just ran into a problem where I stripped the threads in the driver side caliper". You mean where the brake line attaches?

I did not include the part# for the inner bearing on my 1LE CD because it is the same as the stock inner wheel bearing. If you look at the number on the stock inner wheel bearing it is what you want.

I am glad to see that you have made such quick progress on your 1LE front brake upgrade.

I'm just saying Andy, maybe in your next edition you could put in the part number or picture of both bearings. I mean, why would you upgrade to 1LE without going with new parts all around? It really doesn't cost that much and you'll have the peace of mind that everything on the swap is new or refurbished. I could possibly supply you with a picture of the bearings or box if need be.

EDIT: and yes I do mean I stripped out the threads where the brake line attaches.

That is an exellent suggestion. In version 1.1 I could even offer a bearing part# interchange. This way you could have all of the part#s for the same part from different manufaturers.

no idea on the pn, but if you go to Bearings Inc. and know the hole the race needs to fit and the shaft the bearing needs to fit they can figure out the rest and they're usually way cheaper than parts stores.

Andy, hold off on publishing the next version of the CD for a little bit if you can... I'm working on my own tech article documenting my 1LE upgrade which includes a fairly extensive spread sheet with most GM part numbers and prices from about 6 or 7 different vendors. I did it to find the cheapest route for myself and am making a web page out of it, hopefully will be done sometime next week. I even weighed the components as I took them off my car and before I put the 1LE stuff on to see if there was a weight gain or loss (turns out they're about 6 lbs heavier/wheel - mostly due to the rotors). I found the tech article over here to be somewhat lacking and disorganized and I will be writing a step by step process of how the components are to be changed. I also just modified the spindles I took off the car (I bought an extra set) and will take even more detailed pictures of the cuts and hopefully get some dimensions so people can make more precise cuts without making guesses - I found myself studying pictures that weren't exactly macro shots of the cuts, trying to see where the line exactly fell.
