Replacing Shocks N Struts....
Replacing Shocks N Struts....
Tommorow I am gonna change out my poor, old, crappy, horrible, dead shocks n struts on my camaro with new KYBs. The problem is I dont know really were to begin. Can some one show me a link to a tech article or give me some direction. Some one told me when you start the struts you have to mark some things postitions, that way your alignment wont be tottally off. So if some one can give me the 411 or shoot me a link it would be a big help. Thanks

just get a Chilton's and/or Haynes manual and start reading, ill be changing out my shocks and struts along with my torque arm, springs, LCA bushings and ball joints during labor day weekend. Those manuals really help, and those are the directions that i plan to follow so i hope theyre right. Keep us updated on the project.

yeah if you don't really know what your doing I'd recommend getting one of the manuals. Other than that your going to need a second set of hands when installing the rear shocks.

Hey Popapork, click on the link in my sig and check out pages 7 and 8. It is not actually all that hard. I did a FULL suspension rebuild and upgrade on my car. The pictures on my site will give you a better idea of what you are tackling. The shocks are pretty straight forward. Just un-bolt them from the top first, then from the bottom, slide 'em out, put new ones in just in the reverse order. Struts, a little more complicated but you can do it. Jack up lower control arm. Take off top strut nut, NOT the three holding the mount on. Take an impact gun remove the 2 nuts and bolts holding it on to the spindle. Slide the strut off and out, replacing is the exact reverse. Just make sure you have the lower control arm supported by a good floorjack and jack stand if you can get one under it. If you have any questions, shoot me an email.
OK guys....we had some problems. Problem 1: the top nuts were soo rusted and F'd up we had to cut them out. This took us a few hours being careful not to screw up anything. Then we had to use a hammer and chisel to pound it out the rest of the way. Problem 2: The bottom bolt on the Strut was soo screwed up I had to take off the rotor and the shield. Then we took a tourch and wd40 and used them for about an hour or so. Then it came off like butta with the impact gun. Sooo this one side and a new sway bar ran me about 6 hours or so. Tommorow I am gonna put in new shoes and do the other 3. wish me luck.
