Rear Drum Brake Springs
Rear Drum Brake Springs
This is on my 92 Camaro. I bought 2 different spring kits for the shoes. In both kits, the spring that connects the shoes at the bottom, which runs across the self adjuster screw, has 2 different springs, a red & a white, but looking at the old springs, it looks like the red springs are the ones to use for both sides. Therefore the need of 2 kits. The reason I say that is because the red spring has the correct off set spring end coming off the coils. The white spring offset runs into the self adjuster star wheel. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks, FJK

I've never changed out the springs, just the pads & then began the torture of putting it all back together again until I swapped in a rear disc setup recently!
If no one else jumps in, I would use the spring that matches the factory spring, & would suggest going back to where you got the kits & asking them to look up in their books/computer what the extra spring is for. It could be a generic kit that fits different types & not all parts used every time.
Good Luck!

The kit I got from NAPA had all the right springs in it, its been a few years so I don't recal the color. More than likely you have a generic kit, that is used on multible cars. Ask the place you got it from, they might have some info on it or atleast a diagram.
