Running No C-Clips
Running No C-Clips
I've been running a non c-clip axle for the past year and hadn't had any real problems yet. On my setup the axle is held into place with a shim and caliper mounting bracket.

I have a couple questions. Is a non c-clip axle ok for everyday driving? (its late in my case) How long would wheel bearings last on average running no c-clips? Like in my setup.

what rear end do you have? it looks like you either have a flange mounted axle or c clip eliminators. the pic loads really slow for me and i never waited on all of it. lot of axles don't have c clips, like a 9". c clip eliminators tend to leak but it isn't that big a deal, just have to keep the oil level checked.
Ihave a full size chevy truck with a built ford 9"--no c-clip and it has large tapered bearings. I ran this rearend hard for 8+ years with 12 inch rear discs. Its a lowered work truck that carries daily on average about 1000lbs ( I'm in the Ceramic tile/Marble business) and running strong. This truck even lowered will handle 3000 lbs weght in the bed.
I wasted the stock 10-bolt c-clip rearend in about 4 yrs. ( that one only had drum brakes) I truely believe from experience that the outer clamp axles are more durable.
My Camaro I just installed a brand new Auburn posi and ofcourse new bearing throughout. Even with new parts this thing has alot of endplay and every once in a while you can feel things knock aliitle from side thrust. Kick the wheels of any c-clip rear new or old and you will get this. You have to wiggle or kick them hard but ut the knock is there.

Hey BORLAZ06..how did you get the brake backing plates on your 12 bolt?I am running the identical rear (12 bolt Moser...89+up PBR rear brakes & c-clip eliminators) and I cut the backing plates to slide over the axle onto the rear flange.I am not totally happy with the way they are mounted but to date have had no problems.Did you put them on the axle and then have the bearing pressed on?TIA
