1st things 1st, make sure the parking brake is off. If that doesn't help, squirt penetrating oil on all the lugs and drive it for 20 minutes (to heat it up) and then try again with the hammer. Repeat if necessary, but always make sure the parking brake is off when you start beating on 'em.

Good Luck!

You definately want to make sure the parking brake is off. You can try this if you don't want to drive the car to get the brakes hot. This is an old timer trick, and it does work. Take a bolt that is 1/2" diameter or bigger and long enough to not hit the lug studs. Soak the lug studs with WD-40 (or something similar) right where they come through the drum. Then, hold the bolt between two of the lug studs and give it a good whack or two with a hammer. Proceed all the way around, between each of the five lug studs. After you get all the way around, try to pull the drum off again. If it doesn't budge, spray some more oil and pound away. You may have to go around four or five times, but it will come off. You really don't want to pry on the drum, or pound on the edge of it because it will distort and you'll have to get a new one. Hope this helps!

You may also have to back off the brake adjustment through the holes in the backing plate.

When I've taken rear drums off for the first time, I've always had little (2 or 3) that have been semi screwed onto some of the studs. Usually I've broken them taking them off as they are just sort of tin like metal & have never replaced then during install. As above, parking brake, & then use a rubber mallet on the inner edge of the drum & some persistance will pay off!
