When replacing front brake pads....?
I just replaced my front pads and the car feels MUCH better. It seems that my calipers were sticking and the pads were wearing uneven. The inside pad was on the scrapper but the outside bad looks like it has 10k miles left on it.
My question is how many of you guys use this thick green grease on the caliper and sliding pins during reassembly?
I used it and I'm hoping this fixes the problem. Should I replace the pad locating bolts/pins or what? There is a slight clunking noise when I go from reverse to forward or back and forth. I guess there is still some play but it worries me because I think this movement is causing the uneven wear.
Any suggestions and are there bushings that can be replaced on the caliper where the locating bolts secure? BTW, Chilton's manual didn't help much except to tell me the torque settings on those mounting bolts.

You should be able to buy replacement sliders & bushings for the calipers. I don't use green stuff, but I do put silicone lube on the slider bolts... the same silicone you'd see sold as "dielectric compound" for spark plug wires. If your current mounting bolts are rusted up, they should be replaced... and get ready, because they're about $7 each!
You might also have a brake hose that's getting clogged, and sticking. If you have the original hoses on the car, think about replacing them... they're about $17 each. And I hear that rebuilt front calipers are only $9 from autozone! When I redo my front suspension next spring, I'm putting on rebuilt calipers- my current calipers have over 240,000 miles on them! (I changed the brake hoses in '96, and when I replace the calipers, I'll replace the hoses again.)

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I'm going to just go ahead and leave it for right now. The pads have a no questions asked warrenty so I'll bring them in if the start to do the same thing. I'll go and check the prices of the calipers and bolts but $9 sounds too good to be true even with a core exchange.
I've got about 160k miles on these bad boys but the mounting posts are all only 6k miles old. I had somebody do the brakes because last time I didn't torque the bolts down enough and one pin was missing! I'll have to ask them if they replace the bushings in the caliper every time the install a new mounting bolt.
