Worn Brakes?

It could be that you have worn brake pads, a worn outer wheel bearing, warped rotor or loose brake pad. Take off the wheel and check it out.

A problem that's typical with these type of GM floating calipers is the outter pad. If you look at it you will see 2 tabs on the top of it these should be bent down so that they fit snuggly against the caliper, actually the tighter you can get it the better. Often when new pads are installed they are never bent down, and this can sometimes cause the chatter noise that your describing. Because these are low drag calipers the piston is drawn back in it's bore slightly when the pedal is released, this is enough to cause the outter pad to bounce around if it's loose, when you apply the brakes it goes away.

On third gens with rear discs there should be a retainer clip either made form wire or thin steel keeping the inboard pad against the caliper puck if you are missing this the noise you described will be the result. Call your gm parts dealer for replacements if they do not know what you need e-mail me i can grab the part number from my files... Good luck
