Home made brake setup
I am very interested in fabricating my own 4-pot aluminium front brake setup.I have looked at Ward's thread on this board along with similar others. What I'm getting at is that it can't be that difficult to make a brake setup with the help of an engineer. What I'm thinking about is seperating the part of the disc with the studs and bearing and fitting it inside a custom made aluminium hat (many manufacturers with make these to your specs).A floating disc from the same manufacturer will then bolt right up.All you then need to do is buy a pair of aluminium 4-pot calipers and have some brackets made to adapt them to the spindles. The manufacturer I was looking at here in the UK was Bremsport.Their BILLET calipers are about £350 a pair,13" discs about £220 a pair.Add the various hardware and the price is probably going to be the same as the Baer pbr setup.Any info from anybody who has ever attempted this sort of job (not neccesarily a Camaro) would be very helpful to quite a few by the looks of it.
ps.Why the hell do Baer stick an extra $1600 on the price of their front brake kit to get Alcan calipers, where is the extra money spent?

I don't see your point,There are plenty of people who have done it to countless cars.Just check some older posts from this board and other sites (especially 1st gen cars).Besides Wilwood and other companies actually endorse this and make universal hats, brackets etc. to fabricate your own system.I'm not going to pay over $1000 for a very overpriced Baer 2-pot kit or a scandalous $2600 for a 4-pot kit when I can build a 4-pot kit for much less.
