10.5 to 11 or 12 inch rotors ?

I'm looking to improve my front braking this winter.

Does anyone know if there is any REASONABLY priced kits we can buy to replace our 10.5 front rotors with 11s or 12s and keep stock location and suspension ? If so who makes them ? Any idea how much ?

thx,
RP.

Spohn sells the 1LE kit with the 12" rotors for $850, you will have to modify your spindles or have them do it, they will send it back ready to roll. Plan on a grand for everything.

you should just get performance stock sized rotors and pads..
and then get better brake hoses, you should be able to stop the car alot quicker!

1 grand is alot for front brakes, at least for me it is...

My 1LE swap ran me a little over $800, but if this is the route you take, go with Spohn's kit. Everything you need all at one shot. It took me about 3 months to scrounge all my parts up.

I guess I lean MDFormula's direction on this brake deal. Ya know, sometimes it's just about what you'd like to say you got on the car more than getting what you really need. Some members drag or road race their rides and know exactly what they need...then there's the rest of us. It really means being honest with yourself about how hard and for how long you push your car. For most people I would think a good performance upgade would be one size over stock rotor diameter, so you can keep your present wheels, and good rotors/pads (remember things like those sweet 14" rotors HAVE to have 17" or larger wheels).

I'm impressed some of the new kits/pieces from Stainless Steel Brakes, (http://www.ssbrakes.com/ ), including the Short Stop upgrades with plated rotors and carbon fiber/low dust pads, and the new 1 or 2 piston aluminum Force 10 calipers. The calipers look great powder coated or polished. And for the RS guys with drum rears SSB makes affordable rear disc conversions so you can have those red (or whatever) calipers on both ends.

Just my 50 cents worth

I agree. For a car regularly driven around town, I think the Force 10 would be a great budget upgrade, and maybe change out the rotors with better ones. I was faced with replacing all 4 calipers and rotors, so I bit the bullet and went with the 1LEs. I don't race, drag, or auto-x, I just wanted the car to be able to stop...guess I went a bit overboard, huh???

I'm sooooo glad I did!!

Now I'm itching to upgrade the braking on my RS. I may just convert to discs on the rear and maybe install the Force 10 calipers, but that's it. No 1LEs for a sensibly driven 305 TBI car.

My point exactly. 1g is alot of coin !

I was planning on upgrading to steel braided flex lines for the front and was going to stick with the 10.5s to see how these worked with the upgraded lines.

Beyond that I'd consider a caliper upgrade as well if the prices were reasonable. So far I have not seen any reasonable prices. I'll check out SSbrakes. The 11 and 12 inch stuff is priced outta this world -- IMHO.

thx,
RP.

Good brakes and good brake upgrades cost money and being able to stop is more important than anything else. Yes try to be budget consious, but all brake upgrades cost money, just something to think about. Some other fast mod might have to wait in order for you to get better brakes. I was lucky to already have the 1LE brakes on my B4C but let me tell you that after driving my '92 Z28 with the standard 4 wheel discs and then driving my B4C with the 1LE's the difference is night and day. I only suggested the Spohn 1IE kit because it is an excellent braking package and a reasonable price. If you look at the other kits out there (Behr, willwood, etc) 1G is not a lot to spend on brakes. Just my 2c. Thanks
