For yerbasic street car with street tires, about 1 - 1½° negative (pinion that much lower than the drive shaft) works about the best. For a really max-effort race car, somewhere around 4° negative is more typical.

A torque arm by itself probably isn't going to do a whole lot for your traction by itself, especially if your car is lowered. You need LCA lowering brackets.

He is correct, I just want to add that it is the relation of the angle of the transmission output shaft angle measured against the angle of the pinion. Match the pinion angle to the same angle of the output shaft for starters, then angle the front of the pinion downward (or negitive) 1* and you should be fine. If it is a higher torque motor and it is strictly used of drag racing, then you will want to adjust more towards the 2*,3*, or even 4* mark but this is getting extreme for street use. Drag cars are only run under hard thrust conditions, and if they were to ease off the throttle for driving normal freeway crusing speeds, the would develop bad harmonics in the drivetrain.
