9bolt rebuild
My 9bolt has been sitting outside for the past like 3 months with no diff. cover or axles in (didnt even stuff a rag in them)
its been raining on and off down here so I guess I should rebuild it.... also gives me an excuse to put some better gears in it... their 2.43 or something like that.... what do I need to know, as in proper disassembly and tolerances, torque specs, re-assembly, etc. OH and where to get some better gears

Thanks Laiky!
did you use the factory spec from the case connecting half? or just threw in shims until there was minimal gear lash??
on a side note.... a lot of people ask me for information on how rebuild the 9bolt.
there is a tech article here on 3rd gen that explains it pretty well, and the FACTORY service manual explains it as well. you really need both to understand it fully. I throw in a copy of the factory service manual 9bolt pages with every shim order.

In the thicker sizes, like .044 I have some AN4 hardened shims. I don't even know what the AN4 material stands for, but they cost me like $7-8 each. I think it may be an aircraft grade material or something like that.
The first time is always a learning experience. I did mine when I replaced my gas tank, and exhaust system. so my car was apart for 2 months. especially since I didn't gather up the parts before hand. It was in the middle of the winter too, so I waited for warm days.......
