9-bolt disc brake backing plate q's

9-bolt disc brake backing plate q's

is there a difference in the backing plates for the stock cast iron and the pbr l1e calipers? If so, how can i tell the two apart? i have a 9-bolt and id like to get calipers for it but i dont know if there is a difference between the backing plates.

I believe the early non-PBR type backing plates are cast iron, and the later PBR type are fancy stampings.

dammit... hoping to get away with using the cheapo cast iron ones... guess that explains why the bolts where missing. the guy porbably had to use them to bolt the retro fit plates to his 10-bolt. Oh well... ill probably cop out and replace them with the plates for the drum brakes. Too broke to afford anything better.

Although you can't really see the plate, this is what the "old" style backing plate looks like. This is (was) my '88 rearend:
