Scraping Noise

Driving around today, and I hear a loud scraping noise....sounds JUST like a jet flying overhead...so I ignore it. Next stop light...I notice it again...then I realize, it's coming from my car. It's not only when I'm braking, but when I'm moving forward at all. At slow movement, it's a loud scrape...at driving speeds ,it's a constant squeal. I had my wheel cylinders replaced, my shoes replaced, and all the hydraulics in the rear flushed and refilled back in February... Btw, my e-brake doesn't work...pulls all the way up with no effect. I call the shop that did the work and they said as long as it isn't effecting my brakes operation, it'll be fine....they wouldn't schedule me in for a check out until Thursday. (It's officially Sunday morning now). The noise is getting louder the more I drive..only way to stop it is by putting the car in reverse, letting it get a little speed, and laying on the brakes.... No noise for a few mins, then it starts up again. Now, is it safe to drive like this? I don't necessarily believe the mechanic that said it's ok...can this do any damage? Second, could it be my e-brake cable hung up on something?

Thanks.

i wouldnt drive it at all untill you get the brakes checked again, i mean you have to put it in reverse to slow it down thats unheard of!! you can definitely hurt your tranny doing this!!!
something is very wrong for the brakes to even hardly work at all even after getting them serviced recently!! sounds to me that the pads are maybe shot and are grinding the rotors...

Md..ya read me wrong man. Jesus christ no, I don't put the car in reverse while it's still moving forward.. My tranny's too old, it couldn't take that! I'm saying though, to get it to stop for a few minutes with the noise, I have to stop the car, back it up and give it brakes..to reset them.

My brakes work fine..there's no change in their operation..it's just that horrible noise. Me and my dad are putting the car on jacks today in the garage and we're gonna pop the drums off and see if there's anything physically in there, like a rock or something....and see if the cables are all intact and working ok. I'll update on here if we find anything...

Also, this is all in my rear brakes... My front brakes are fine..although they could definitely use replacing! (Rotors warped to hell)

TADA...problem solved. Took both the tires and brake drums off....the right side DUMPED pad dust everywhere, the left side barely had any. Guess what fell out of the right side? A smashed, polished on both sides RIVET. The drum on the right side is marred pretty bad far on the inside..the sucker got in there and rode the pad... Halelujah!
