I've looked into this before, and from what I can see the kit isn't that good. The rotors are somewhere near standard width and I think a little thinner. The calipers are probably not man enough for such a heavy car.It dawned on me that I could find nobody using this kit and plenty using others like Baer etc.I think the Wilwood kit is probably designed for pro street type applications rather than mutiple hard stops.I've not given up completely on Wilwood as I'm trying to fabricate a set-up using 12" or 13" discs and billet 6-pot calipers, aluminium hats etc.

I purchased the front kit the other day for my camaro.

I know Preston Smith (of High Tech Performance Magazine fame) runs them and puts a lot of street miles on his car.

Good enough for me.

I spoke with wilwood on the issues I would be have too and they said give it a shot.

is this the kit you are talking about ???

Bolt-On disc brake kit for drag race vehicles weighing up to 2,800 lbs. Reduces front end weight by as much as 45 lbs. Four piston Billet Dynalite callipers provide excellent braking power for drag cars with rear disc or drum brakes. Kit includes aluminum Billet Dynalite four piston callipers, calliper brackets, high strength steel rotors, aluminum hubs, quick change brake pads and all necessary installation hardware. Kits also available with lightweight drilled rotors.

WIL-140-1035B ‘82-’92 Camaro/Firebird

would love to get some better brakes for my car cost in aus for this kit is almost $1500 $au

That brake kit is a standard diameter rotor setup with light-duty 4 piston calipers. Better than stock - yes. Meant for road racing and severe street duty - not really (MO).

A friend of mine (and fellow MNF-body member) that is a Wilwood certified dealer and already sells a 4th gen front brake kit and I are working on a Wilwood front brake kit that will use a billet aluminum stand alone hub that will replace the captured-bearing style hub/rotor our cars come with and accept slip on rotors (2-piece ones). This will go along with Wilwood's Superlite IIA 4 piston caliper and a 12" Wilwood rotor (various types will likely work and be available). The long term plan is to offer a 13" rotor and possibly the 6 piston calipers if it is feasible. We are still in the design phase but hope to have it ready for sale before spring 2003. He has gotten some quotes on the machine costs for the billet hubs and adapter brackets and it is looking like an initial production run of 10 hubs will be necessary for everyone to be happy.... So we are still deciding how lucrative and feasible this brake kit will be to follow through with and produce. Approximations on the cost level show something comperable to the Baer PBR kits with the obvious advantage of a much more powerful caliper and reduced unsprung weight with slip on rotors.

He runs the Superlight 4 piston calipers with 12" rotors on the front of his heavily modified 96 Firehawk convertible (close to 4000lbs with him in it!!!) and is EXTREMELY fast on the local road courses......

So feel free to let me know here if this is something people here might be interested in and I can relay the information to him.

Thanks,
Matt

If the calipers will clear 16" Formula wheels...

...then I would like to hear about the kit. A good 12" kit is enough for my car, plus I want to keep those rims as the car is a work beater for now. "Work beaters need brakes too" heh

Peace,

K
