K-Member Application.

Hi All,
I need some quick answers here.
I have a 1982 Firebird that was smack in the front right side the Monday before Thanksgiving. The right Fender, door, complete front susupension was damage. In process of straighten the Frame/K-member the brakets that the lower control arm attaches to become very weak. Thus the shop sayes that the K-member has to be replace.

Well a week and half ago, I thought that I had a K-member coming direct from GM but the order was cancel by GM. The parts guy who process the order is calling to talk with a GM rep in Flint tomarrow. So just in case the GM rep refuses to send the part, I need a backup plan.

In the prcess of restoring my 82 Bird, I am using only orginal new GM parts. As I said I now have all of the parts except for one, the K-member. I also am adding SFCs and STB to the car.

I have been to the Perfromance Automotive's webset. They list K-member part number 1197MMSP and A-arms 1199MS/SP. I called a dealer that sells this K-member/A-arms and the guy told me that the first pot hole that I hit would bend this K-member. He also stated that the K-member was only for racing applicaiton and not for street use. I do-not want coil overs. I do not think that the upper struct mount can handle the weight of the car.

Have any of you used the Preformaxe Automotives K-member and A-arms on you street third-gen? Have you had any problems with pot holes? Thanks for your time.

Please no comments about use parts or cost. The car is mint, absolutly no-rust. I am the orginal owner.

Just go to the local auto wreckers and unbolt one from another third gen. Have it sand blasted and painted. Put in new a-arm bushings and have it installed in your car.
