1LE Spindle Modifiers

I've just completed the mod: cut the ears, drilled (13/32) and tapped (12mm x 1.75) the dust shield holes, all according to Andyz's instructions. All went well, however, the holes, while not significantly off, are a tiny bit crooked. Should this be a major concern or is this to be expected with hand tools?

I know someone else who did this, and he is still driving the car hard everyday. Me!

I've got a line one some 1le brakes, spindles, calipers, etc. The complete swap for $400 + my brakes + labor to swap them. Good deal? I'm still debating on the 12" 1le vs. the newly found C5 13" rotor possability. Sorry, dont mean to take over your thread~~ Thanks!

Hey, Andy,

I'm assuming that the holes in your spindles weren't perfect, but that all works well.

A note: After using your CD to complete the modification of the spindles, I went to Steve Spohn's site to order the brake package. In studying the contents, I noticed that the adapter to spindle bolts were 7/16-14. I purchased one for trial fitting and it was significantly smaller than the 12 mm. I e-mailed Steve who said that he'd chosen an SAE size because the tap would be easier to locate than the metric version. While this isn't a real problem (Can I still purchase these bolts from GM?), knowing in advance would have been nice.

I'm still anxious about the rear brake package and where I'll be able to eventually pick it up.

You are correct, my spindles were not perfect.

As far as bolt sizes go, 7/16 and 12mm are virtually identical. It is very difficult for the layman to tell these two sizes apart. The 12mm bolts are still available from GM.

Not to mention the fact that Steve would never comprimise safety.

Be patient with the rear brake upgrade. Something good is coming!

Thanx, andyZ28

Andy,

Speaking of the rear, I can purchase a set of braided steel brake lines from Steve (I'm already using them on my stock set-up). Can I assume the rears will fit your rear brake upgrade when the time comes?
