I have been running Sumitomo HTR Zll 245/45/17ZR for the last three summers (gone on again in April) with very good results for Traction and Handling in the Wet & Dry. Also getting very good wear, with a very aggessive tread pattern. Tirerack has very good prices on them. A good choice,

I have then on my Vette. No problems with them.
Sumitomo HTR Z 275 40-17 & 315 35-17
Sumitomo HTR Z 275 40-17 & 315 35-17

I have them on my GTA and like them a lot.

I'm running 245/45/zr17's on my Camaro and have been very pleased with the traction and the wear of the tires

I think they suck a huge one. I hate my Sumitomo tires and can't wait to get them off my car. I have run them for less than 15k miles and they are almost bald, and I have done about 5-6 burnouts with them. That's it. I have the HTR-Z ones and got them from tire rack...275/17's. I would not recommend them.
They are the crappiest tires I have ever had, and I've had a lot:
Goodyear ZR55's 245/16
Firestone ..( something or other) 245/16
Pep Boys Futuras 245/16
Nitto NT 550 ( I think) 235/40/17
Brigestone RE 940 245/16
And my favorite and cheapest: Kumho Ecsta Supra's 255/50/16's
All those tires above were way better than the sumitomos. Look at the survey results from the people that bought them...they suck.
I think that you should buy Kumho's...for the money...aw hell screw the money, they are great tires.
I have a friend with Sumitomo HTR-Z 2's and he likes them. They are much better, he runs 18 inch ones.

What is great about the Sumitomo HTR-Z 11 tire is that it has the almost identical agressive tread pattern as some tires costing three of four times as much. When I bought mine three years ago the tread pattern was pretty redical. Originally posted by john5.7 87Iroc

how do these tires compare to the bridstone potenza re 730 's?
i know the 730's suck in the snow, but how do the sumitomo's rate (ie, wear, dry grip, wet traction, snow) because here in central IL we have to deal with snow as you have experienced.
oh also i like the fact that you are useing momar's avitar, which whom is also a fellow central Illinoisian (as i pick my nose like a hick).
thanks

I have the Potenza RE730's, but havent got a chance to use them yet because the car has been sitting in the garage as I try to get some final bugs worked out. I guess that worked out ok anyway since I chose a tire that is not supposed to be snow friendly.

When you buy a Perfromance tire they are not meant to be used in the snow. If that is the case buy a All-Season tire.

Well, I didnt want an all weather tire. I wanted something for wet and dry and thats what I got. I think we have had the last snow for the year(I really hope so) so hopefully I will get the thing ready go soon so I can test them out.

I bought Sumitomo HTR+ in 2008. Without any hard driving they were already failing after 6K. By 18k they were well past minimum tread levels and then a sidewall blew out! Enough said, these are complete crap!

Way to dig up an old thread lol. On a side note, I'm running Sumitomo tires also and have been great. What chaps my hide is they don't make the ones I have anymore grrr.
the HTR Z has a tread wear rating of only 160! that so soft its not even leagle for use in the LEMONS racing series! I put on a pair last year and have already wore them out due to the 100mi/daily I drive for work( I was originaly driving only 5mi when purchased). The tires are actually very good( had BFg on before) and I plan to switch to the HTR Z2 next month for a little harder compond for tire life
