sway bar measurements, need help

sway bar measurements, need help
I'm trying to measure up my sway bars for new bushings. Where is the proper place to measure the front bar?
If I measure the diameter right in the middle of the bar, I get 36mm on the caliper. If I measure right along side of the bushing, I am getting about 34mm? Which would be more accurate to measure bar diameter? (The rear bar appears to be 24mm at all points)
I was thinking the 34mm, but not sure. The bar appears to be hollow, as it has a hole near the end link (on the top) at each end. Was the 36mm the only hollow bar?
Also, what is the standard sleeve length. I measured 2 1/4 but the shortest I can find is 2 5/8. As I plan to lower the vehicle, will this be a problem.
My car is an 89 Iroc 350ci (FE2).

Measure next to the bushing. Both the 34mm & 36mm GM bars were hollow.
