ok im not quite sure if this is the form for it but here it goes i was debting about a 9 inch or a 12 bolt and right now i have a track bar not leaf springs (whitch i heard u can only get a 12 bolt in leaf springs) and i wanted to know how hard it would be to make the swtich what i would need to change and if its easyer to witch it with a 9 inch or a 12 bolt the car is in my sig and the only reason im interested is that my rear tires are showing alingment wear and i belive my rear end is bent so i wnat to get some info on it before i go spend moeny (yes im going to chekc to make sure its bent but just want to wiegh my opptions)

 

either will work and fit and be direct bolt in, check with moser, currie, or strange. other than the ease or gear swaps and axle retention i'd prefer the 12 bolt.

 

can i keep the track bar or do i need to switch to leaf springs?
(the only reason im asking is becuase some guy at work said i would need to witch and that it woudl be a pain in the a$$ to go with a 9 inch and that they only make 12 bolt with leaf springs)

The track bar is also called the panhard bar. It's used to center the diff in a 3 link system like third gens use plus it's also used on 4-links and ladder bar coil suspensions.

When you buy an aftermarket 12 bolt or 9" for a third gen, it's a direct bolt in. You use your torque arm, lower control arms and panhard bar to mount the diff in the car.

Buying a complete, ready to bolt in, 12 bolt or 9", you can expect to pay around $2000. Because of the third gen's torque arm, just any old 12 bolt or 9" won't work because there's no way to mount the torque arm.
