I am noticing the the outside edges or my tires are wearing low opposed to the rest of the tread on the tires. What causes this? cuz i don't want to have to replace 2 Falken ZR rated tires just yet!

What kind of shape is your idler arm in? If it's worn you can go through tires like they're butter.

 

could need an alignment.

 

Sounds like a alignment problem.

 

I was thinkin alignment too cuz the top of the wheels edge outward when the car is jacked up, but i was wondering if it might be a thirdgen specific problem

 

Not really, my Iroc had only one alignment in 16yrs and that was after a Idler arm replacement & new tires.

 

You're taking the corners too darn fast, slow down! (Yeah right)
I got the same 'problem' on freeway ramps.

Even though my alignment was in spec I loosend the three nuts on top of the strut and let it slide down about 1/4 inch for a little more camber on the dr side, pass side was all the way down already. That seemed to help handling a bit and tires dont show any abnormal wear. Good luck.

 

Yup, sounds like alignment.

The stock alignment specs for these cars produce that. They are stupid.

Get the car set to about -1° camber, with a ½° split (higher on the right); and +3-3½° caster, split similarly; and about .01-.02" toe-in.

And of course, make sure all your steering components are tight.

 

i did my idler arm and both ball joints last year then had it aligned and new tires put on...... and im still wearing out the outside edges of the front tires, it must be my driving (i seem to like to whip turns alot)

 

The top of the wheels edge outward when the car is jacked up because the A-arms are dropping down and changing the angles of the front suspension.

When you say the outside edges of your tires are wearing low, do you mean more or less wear than the middle? If tires are under-inflated, you can get excessive wear towards the edges of the tires. If the tires are over-inflated, you can get excessive wear in the middle of the tires. If the tires are out of alignment, one side or the other of the tire, but not both, will wear more irregularly than the other, depending on which way it is out of alignment.

I'm not considering myself to be an expert, but I read a magazine article once that had pictures in it and showed different wear patterns. Also, if you think about the physics behind it, it makes sense.

sounds like to much + chamber . have the alignment re checked ,this time give your car about .5 degrees neg camber , and as much caster as you get out of the stock setup .
