Whenever I am driving on a rough road I hear this rattle noise coming from the rear of the car. I have noticed that if the brakes are applied this noise stops. If the rears had disc brakes then I would know what to look for but they are drums and I am clueless. Any ideas?

 

Brake parts. That's about all it can possibly be.

Take off the drums and look inside.

Be certain that it's coming from the rear, too; front pads can rattle, and it's often hard to tell which end of the car the noise is really coming from.
