lug nuts
lug nuts
quick question on lug nuts, im planning on putting 15" Z28 5 spoke wheels on my 86 2.8 V6 car... which currently has those steel wheels:

thats not mine, but the wheels look like that. my dad says that we need to get different lug nuts, but can we use the stock ones? or do we need covers or something like that?

You can use the same lug nuts, as far as fit goes. Personally I'd ditch the crappy stock ones with the weenie little sheet metal cover, and go get some aftermarket solid ones. But that has nothing to do with what kind of wheels you have; they take the same size and type of nut.
cool, i thought i would have some kind of problem after seeing some pic on the boards about a guy with iroc wheels, and the lug nuts not being able to tighten all the way, which was supposedly his lug length themselves.
thanks for the reassurance, the solid aftermarket ones could be found at any parts store like autozone or something?

If I remember right don't the 15" 5 spokes come with lug nuts that have threads on the outside of the nut so those cheap plastic nut covers will screw on to them?

I'm sure the nuts on my old 89 RS 5 spoke wheels had external threads, and the little black caps screwed on to them, they never came off, but the plastic center caps all cracked after 2 years and I had to buy new ones.

Right, there have been a couple of different styles of them... lots of cars came with a more or less standard lug nut except it had a sort of flange around it, and it was 18mm instead of ¾". Then it had this thing sheet metal cover swaged on over that, that made it ¾". After a few tightenings and loosenings, the metal trim thing comes off; and then your factory lug wrench won't work on them any more, it just spins. That sux.
Then there's the other style like you're talking about, with the screw-on thing. A little more functional but still not very robust.
But, the fit is the same, they all interchange, on all the wheels. I think the post he was referring to, somebody was trying to add some spacers and their lugs weren't long enough.... I don't know what their deal was.
