ttop squeaks
ttop squeaks
installed sphon sfc's and noticed a difference in stiffness.
i still have some t top squeaks and dash rattles.
will anything quiet this car?
(not that is too noisey)
how about strut tower braces? or would i have to include a roll bar?
eibach pro springs, new poly bushings front end kit shocks and struts.

Hey JB, I don't have yet SFC's on my car, but I ran into this fix a couple days ago.
I was painting the black edge molding on my T-Tops, and noticed that the holes in the A and B pillars where the lock pins engage were dirty and with a kinda powdery residue. I cleaned it all up, as well as the weatherstripping and channels. Then i put just a small dab of #2 chassis grease in each hole, and smeared it around.
Then I just put the T-tops back, and the car is a lot quieter, it seems a lot of the squeaks were due to the locking pins rubbing into the holes.
hope that helps,

I use WD40 on the gaskets around the T's to quiet them down, I've never heard of the pin thing before, but I'm gonna try that.
Of course you could just ride around with the wind in your hair, they don't squeak when they're not in

i have to agree with Frik here, just take 'em out!
i replaced the weather stripping on the t-tops alone last weekend and my squeaks have nearly gone away, and my car doesn't leak nearly as much either. just a note: if you do replace the weather stipping, i'd recomend replacing the rubber awning while you're at it - looks a lot better and helps with leaks a lot too.

After I had installed the Jeg's subframe connectors in
my RS, 80% of all rattles/squeeks were gone. Not to
mention how much more stiffer the ride and handling
is! I also replaced my leaking/worn out T-top seals
and the T-top frame that sits on top of the roof. About
10 hours worth of hard work, 90% of rattles/squeeks
gone, also 90% of water leaks gone too!
I don't think you can get rid of all rattles in our
cars. Even if you install subframe connectors,
a strut tower brace and new t top seals. Remember,
there's NO roof! But you can minimize the rattles
and squeeks! My subframe connectors alone
eliminated most of the noises!
